The groom and his family moved to the states from Bosnia and Herzegovina 20 years ago. To honor his family and culture, we will share a few Bosnian traditions with our guests.
At our reception, one of the groom's aunts will walk around with a basket of handmade boutonnieres. She may offer you a boutonniere in exchange for a monetary gift of your choosing. The gift can be large or small; the choice is yours, but please don't feel that you have to participate. At the end of the night, the money will be given to the bride and groom with wishes of wealth and happiness as they begin their journey together as husband and wife.
At the bar, you will see some bottles of liquor with special labels. These bottles will contain rakija, a homemade Bosnian moonshine. Edvin's father brewed the moonshine the day he was born on October 4, 1994, and he has been saving it for his wedding day for 23 years. We encourage you to try some, but warn you that it is strong, so please drink responsibly!
Bosnians also have a traditional dance called Kolo. It is a dance where people gather in a large circle and hold hands while stepping quickly in rhythm. Don't be shy! We'll teach you the steps!
