Traditions

Some things you may see at our wedding... 

The groom and his family moved to the states from&nbsp;Bosnia&nbsp;and Herzegovina 20 years ago. To honor his family and culture, we will share a few Bosnian traditions with our guests.&nbsp;

At our reception, one of the groom's aunts will walk around with a basket of handmade boutonnieres. She may offer you a boutonniere in exchange for a monetary gift of your choosing. The gift can be large or small; the choice is yours, but please don't feel that you have to participate.&nbsp;At the end of the night, the money will be given to the bride and groom with wishes of wealth and happiness as they begin their journey&nbsp;together as husband and wife.&nbsp; 





At the bar, you will see some bottles of liquor with special labels. These bottles will contain&nbsp;rakija, a homemade Bosnian moonshine. Edvin's father brewed the moonshine the day he was born on October 4, 1994,&nbsp;and he&nbsp;has been saving it for his wedding day for 23 years. We encourage you to try some, but warn you that it is strong, so please drink responsibly!&nbsp;

Bosnians also have a traditional dance&nbsp;called Kolo. It is a dance where people gather in a large circle and hold hands while stepping quickly in rhythm. Don't be shy! We'll teach you the steps!
