The following rituals are traditionally performed prior to Hindu wedding ceremonies. Invitations are extended to the bride and groom's immediate families and closest friends.
9:30 AM–10:30 AM
Ganesh Puja
The Ganesh puja is intended to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesh, the deity who removes all obstacles from the couple's impending nuptials.
10:30 AM–11:00 AM
Pithi (Haldi)
In this ceremony, family and friends apply a tumeric-based paste on the bride and groom. This paste is intended to purify the skin and result in a healthy glow for the big day!
11:00 AM–12:30 PM
Grah Shanti
Based on ancient Vedic traditions, the purpose of this ceremony is to seek blessings from the 9 planetary deities (Navgrahas) and neutralize any negative influences.
5:00 PM–9:00 PM
Mehndi
In this ritual, henna paste is applied to the hands and feet of the bride, as well as her family and friends. Applying henna is believed to bring good health and prosperity to the bride. It is said that the darker the henna stain on the bride, the stronger the bond is between the bride and groom.
