Once you arrive in Lisbon, getting around is simple. Here are the easiest options for exploring the city and taking short trips nearby.
> Uber & Bolt: The easiest and most reliable way to get around. Both apps work just like in the U.S., and prices are much lower (most rides are €5–10).
> Walking: Lisbon is very walkable, but remember, cobblestones and steep hills are everywhere. Bring supportive shoes.
> Public Transit: Lisbon has a metro, trams, and buses. They’re inexpensive and reliable, but Uber/Bolt is usually easier for visitors.
> Driving: We don’t recommend renting a car in the city, parking is limited, and the roads are narrow.
> Venue Details: Penha Longa Monastery. Sintra, Portugal. ~30 min uber from Lisbon.
> Best Option: Use Uber or Bolt for door-to-door travel.
> Timing: Always allow extra time (15–20 minutes buffer) when traveling by car in Lisbon. Traffic can be unpredictable.
> Currency: Euro (€).
> Cards: Credit cards are widely accepted in cities. Keep some cash handy for small cafés, markets, or taxis.
> Tipping: Optional. Rounding up the bill or leaving small change is plenty.
> Bring 2 Cards: On our most recent trip to portugal we only used 2 cards. A Visa and an Amex. We never needed cash.
> Travel Tip: Make sure your credit card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.
> Payment Tip: When paying by card select Euros to not be upcharged a "conversion fee" by the merchant/restaurant.
