I’ve never been to an Indian wedding before. What should I expect?
Traditionally, Indian weddings tend to be large and span over a couple of days. Although each region of India has its own specific customs, the general concept is the same – it’ll be a Big Fat Indian Wedding, filled with vibrant colors, music, and plenty of food and dancing. Although family members and close friends may have a role, the remainder of the guests are invited to sit back and enjoy.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Great question! Most individuals attending a Hindu wedding ceremony will wear Indian attire (e.g., saree, lehenga, kurta, sherwani). However, if you do not have access to Indian attire, formal western wear will be acceptable (e.g. cocktail dress, gown, suit). **We do request that no jeans, polos, and/or tennis sneakers be worn.**
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The wedding ceremony will be indoors, however, the baraat (groom's procession) will start outdoors.
Is parking available at the wedding/sangeet venue?
Yes! There are lots of parking spots available at the hotel that are complimentary for all wedding guests.
What about wedding gifts? Do you have a wedding registry?
During this special moment in our lives, your presence at our wedding is more than enough to make our day. We are kindly requesting no boxed gifts, which is a familiar Indian wedding custom.
