Our Wedding

Our Story

We met in 2018 at a student org at the University of Texas, but didn't speak much until we both found ourselves in Austin the following summer on break from our internships. We decided to finally grab lunch at Zilker Park and get to know each other. What was initially supposed to be a short lunch ended up as a three-hour conversation about everything from our childhoods to our biggest hopes and fears. For the rest of the summer, we texted and facetimed constantly. When the semester started, our friendship continued to grow into something deeper with Wednesday morning tacos and chai, movie nights, and more constant texting. Our friends watched from the sidelines and wondered whether we'd ever actually get together. Neha's feelings grew, but she was too nervous to say anything. Rey mostly remained clueless. When Rey's feelings finally started to catch up, Neha's began to fade. We thought our friendship was over - a combination of poor timing and bruised egos. In March 2020, we were all sent home from school because of the pandemic. Nostalgia about college graduation, isolation due to quarantine, and frequent Zoom hangouts led us to rekindle our friendship. After our (virtual) graduation, we had a heart-to-heart and realized we both weren't ready to give up on each other, and decided to give our relationship a real try. The rest is history!

Q + A

Getting to Austin

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is the main airport in Austin. Downtown Austin and our hotel are about 15–20 minutes from the airport by car. From the airport, you can grab a rideshare (Uber/Lyft pickup is right outside baggage claim) or rent a car. If you're planning to explore Austin during the weekend, having a car can be helpful but isn't essential, as rideshares are widely available throughout the city! For those driving in, Austin is centrally located in Texas and easy to reach from most major Texas cities: about 3 hours from Houston or Dallas and roughly 1.5 hours from San Antonio.

Where to Stay

We've reserved two room blocks at the AC Hotel Hill Country for our wedding weekend. It's a beautiful, modern hotel with great vibes for hanging outside of our events! We recommend booking early, as the blocks are available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are plenty of great additional hotel options throughout Austin, but please note that any shuttles will only serve the AC Hotel. Click the appropriate link for your party below to book. Make sure to review your RSVP before booking to ensure you are booking the correct number of nights. Please let us know if you have any trouble booking.

Indian Formal Clothing Types

While the events are traditionally Indian, guests can wear Western Formal or Indian formal attire. Refer to your RSVP for specific guidance for each event! For Women: Lehenga (or Lehenga Choli): A skirt + blouse + scarf (dupatta). Very popular and the easiest to wear formalwear. Saree (or Sari): A long, elegant pleated and draped fabric worn over a blouse and skirt (great for formal events like the ceremony or reception). Salwar / Anarkali: A tunic-style top with pants and a scarf. Comfortable and easy to wear. Indo-Western: Fusion outfits that mix Indian and modern style. Common styles include sharara, gharara, palazzo, and gowns! For Men: Kurta Pajama: A long tunic with fitted pants. Simple, comfortable, and perfect for most events. Nehru Jacket: A vest-style jacket worn over a kurta or even a dress shirt for a semi-formal look. Jodhpuri Suit: A tailored, structured Indian suit. Think of it as the Indian equivalent of a Western blazer and trousers! Sherwani: A more formal, structured long coat worn over pants.

Tips

Bright colors are encouraged. Don’t be afraid of color! Comfortable shoes are a good idea (there may be standing/dancing!). When in doubt, western formal (dresses, suits, etc.) is always welcome.

Note from the Bride and Groom

You generally don’t need to worry about matching specific outfits to events unless noted. More importantly, with wedding season always in full swing, please feel no pressure to wear something brand new! To whatever extent possible, we'd love for you to come dressed in something you already own and love. We're excited to celebrate with all of you wearing whatever wardrobe staples you feel most confident in.

Style Guide

Austin means the world to us. It's where Neha grew up and where both of us went to school and met. Over the years, we've each found some of the spots in the city that make us the happiest. If you're new to Austin and have some time to spend, consider checking out some of our favorites:

Neha's Favorites

TacodeliMy family's favorite breakfast tacos! Before we started dating, Rey and I had a Wednesday morning tradition of Tacodeli and chai in my apartment courtyard before class. My favorites are the Freakin Vegan and the Jess Special. NoriExcellent vegan Japanese food - the sushi and the tofu katsu curry are stellar. P6 at The Line HotelA beautiful rooftop bar and lounge overlooking Lady Bird Lake.
