We recommend packing a lunch for the lawn or eating at the beautiful restaurant inside the museum. You can then walk around the museum or make a short commute to the plaza area to shop, eat, and explore KC

The river market district is a fun vibrant neiborhood in downtown kansas city with lots of restaurants, unique stores, cafes and street markets. City Market is the most well known area with a fun farmers market every Saturday. Take the streetcar there or to other iconic kansas city neiborhoods like as westport, and the crossroads. We reccomend trying betty raes ice cream and stopping by thou mayest coffee!
