Norbert and Nikara met on a popular dating website, Tinder, yes you read that right…Tinder! April 2017, Norbert was drinking beer with his friend (& now groomsman!) Jim at his house in Janesville. Why is that important you ask? Well Tinder only lets you see profiles within 50 miles and Nikara was living in Rockford at the time. The distance between Rockford and Sun Prairie is about 65 miles, but the difference from Janesville to Rockford was only about 35 miles. Norbert swiped right on Nikara the very first day Nikara made a profile & it wasn’t until 4 days later Nikara came across Norbert’s profile. Nikara thought “hmm, a bald guy….he’s cute! Is that really his name though?” & in Norbert’s profile he had written a few of his interests…Gin & tonic, sports, being an uncle, and finally at the end of his profile wrote, “yes my name really is Norbert.” Nikara swiped right and within a few minutes, Norbert messaged Nikara “Hey, Nikara. I like your name :) How’s your day going?” & the rest is history! There are a few funny stories after this and if you’re interested, definitely ask Nikara, not Norbert ;) Norbert met most of Nikara’s friends and family in July 2017 and Nikara met Norbert’s (ginormous, but very welcoming!) family in September 2017. Nikara said “I love you” first to Norbert at his family’s farm on Thanksgiving 2017. (That’s a whole other story if you’re interested to know…again, ask Nikara!) Norbert asked Nikara to move up to Sun Prairie, so they got a cute little apartment together in April 2018. In the summer of 2019, Nikara and Norbert had a serious conversation about taking the next step. Norbert asked Nikara, “House or ring?” If you knew Nikara just a couple years prior to this, she would of said “Ring!” no doubt. However, Nikara knew that financially, it just made the most sense to do the house first. Norbert and Nikara purchased their first house in November 2019 in Sun Priaire. They survived the pandemic and survived working from home with each other for 1 year (and still counting!) On Tuesday April 13th 2021, Norbert and Nikara went to a Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee. (If you know them, you know they have a love for watching sports together, even if they don’t agree on the same team.) Norbert popped the question right before the game outside of the stadium. Nikara was in absolute shock and did NOT see that coming. I mean c’mon, it was a Tuesday, they both had worked that day, had to work the next day, and it was just the two of them. A few weeks later Nikara and Norbert found a venue and set the date for Saturday May 14th, 2022- a very special date, as Nikara’s Grandfather and late Grandmother got married on this date in 1955. (& it just so happens to be a Saturday in 2022?? What are the chances!) They can’t wait to continue on with their journey by throwing an epic wedding!
