Olivia & Josh: A Short Love Story

Olivia and Josh’s story started much sooner than either of them could have ever anticipated, some 20+ years earlier in Manorville, NY. Olivia’s two cousins, Scott and Officiant, Dan, lived right next door to the Newcombe’s on Doe Run, and her family would make the trek down to Long Island from the Finger Lakes to celebrate birthdays and holidays. They would play outside, and as they got older, would swim in the pool and play “Halo”. According to Joshs mother, Marie, he and his twin brother, Aaron, would come home and ooh and awe like little schoolgirls about “the Janke’s cousin, the angel, Olivia.”

Through the decades after, both Olivia and Josh were friends on social media and would occasionally like each other’s posts, not knowing that their paths would eventually cross in a way they both would never imagine.

Fast forward to October 2020 (a forgettable year for many, but not for them) when Dan and his to-be beautiful wife, Ashley, tied the knot. Josh remembers Olivia walking up to the ceremony and being awe-struck; the “angel” got only more beautiful. Josh, with the help of Aaron, made sure to place his things on the seat next to Olivia’s. As this was a fall wedding, gourdes were the centerpiece of each table. Josh, without hesitation, looked at Olivia and said, “you are gourde-geous.” To which Olivia awkwardly replied, “Oh, thanks.” And so, the courtship began.

After months of casually messaging each other and catching up, they decided to have their first date. Josh drove up to Geneva, NY where they went out for dinner and then said goodnight. Josh then drove out west to Buffalo to visit his old college friends, Big B and Little B but on the ride back east to Long Island, a snowstorm was dangerously imminent. Olivia told Josh he could stay with her, and on his way, he quickly picked up the ingredients to make her his famous chicken penne alla vodka. According to many historical documents, Olivia turned head-over-heels after tasting this delectable dish (Gordan Ramsey himself once said “this isn’t crap, it’s actually quite good.”) While the snow was coming down outside, the two cooked, drank wine and sang Frank Sinatra.

After being in a long-distance relationship for months, the two yearned to be closer to each other. Later that year, Josh was able to move up after getting a job in Rochester, NY. He lived in the “Newk-coop” in Canandaigua, NY and the two quickly became inseparable. A year later, he would move into Olivia’s house where they started a little family, adopting two cats, Herbie and Myla.

Living together was the easiest transition either of them ever made. In the summer of ’22 they decided to get a puppy, and by the fall, Gracie the golden retriever blessed their lives. A couple months later, Josh knew this was it. He secretly messaged Olivias best friend and Matron of Honor, Jessica, to help him pick out a ring.

With the help of Olivia’s parents, Donna and Seth, along with her brother, Ross, Josh was able to coordinate the proposal at their beloved family cottage on Seneca Lake. With the groom’s parents, Marie and John, in tow, much thanks to the Best Man, Aaron, Josh was able to get their close loved ones hiding near the family cottage dock. He dropped to one knee, held the ring box unopened in one hand, and kept incoherently saying how much he loved her. To which Olivia responded, “Well, aren’t you going to show me the ring?!”

Luckily, she said yes. The bride and groom eagerly await their family, friends, and loved ones to join them on their special day.
