First and foremost, plan on eating lots of pasta, enjoying fresh olive oil and gelato, and drinking wine in the country that's been perfecting these things for thousands of years! Between meals, try to squeeze in as much sightseeing as possible, whether it's simply walking the streets or touring the Colosseum.
Sorrento
Sorrento is perched on top of a cliff overlooking the Bay of Naples and is known as "the gateway to the Amalfi coast."
It's a great town to wander around, packed with restaurants and scenery.
Our wedding venue is in the town center, and Sorrento is a great hub for traveling to Positano/the Amalfi coast, Capri, Pompei, and Naples.
If you're looking to swim in Sorrento, beach access is a little complicated. There's a small public beach betwen the marinas and a handful of "beach platforms" owned by the more expensive hotels. Your best bet might be to book a hotel/rental with a pool, or plan on a beach day in Positano.
Positano
The town of Positano is built into the cliffs of the Amalfi coast with a maze of cobblestone streets and sidewalks descending to the beach below.

Pompei ruins
Take the Circumvesuviana to Pompei Scavii-Villa dei Misteri (~35min ride from Sorrento). Leaving the station, turn right and walk down the road about 2min, the entrance will be on your left.
Needless to say, Rome is an awesome city to visit and we definitely recommend spending a couple days there. We usually get a hotel between the train station and Colosseum, then explore from there... bring your walking shoes!
