Q + A

What is the dress code?

Welcome Party: Casual

Wedding: Semi-formal / dressy casual

What's the Weather Like?

We won't bore you with the specifics (it's very scientific), but as you can imagine, the climate of San Diego is considered pleasant year-round. In July, the temperatures can reach the mid 70s with lows in the high 50s / low 60s. Ocean breezes can provide some chill in the air that could have you wishing for a jacket.

One thing to keep in mind is the marine layer. The daily ebb-and-flow of clouds is what keeps this area cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Don't be surprised to see a cloudy morning, sunny afternoon, and a cloudy evening. It can be so cloudy, even in summer, that we have monthly nicknames, such as "May Gray", "June Gloom", and "No Sky July".

The ocean will take some time to fully warm up, with peak temperatures in August to September. The average temperature in July is 68 degrees Fahrenheit. For some, this is wetsuit weather while others enjoy the brisk dip.

We would recommend you still plan on bringing your swim attire and sunglasses!

Will there be a courtesy shuttle?

Yes! A courtesy shuttle will run between the Marriott La Jolla (hotel) and UCSD Faculty Club (venue) throughout the Wedding night. These are the only two stops on the route, so plan accordingly if you wish to not stay at the hotel during the weekend.

Are there any amenities with the hotel block?

Yes! See the Hotel Block page for details.

Are kids welcome?

Absolutely! We want this weekend to be as inviting to our guests as possible. The San Diego area has plenty to offer for children of all ages (see: Things to Do). We are confident they will have an amazing time in Southern California.

Can we arrive early?

Yes, you may arrive early to enjoy the long holiday weekend. We chose this weekend for the ability to spend as much time with guests as possible. Feel free to explore the area! However, the hotel block is only valid starting Friday. If you wish to arrive prior to Friday, you will have to find separate lodging. The Marriott La Jolla may have rooms available but you will be subject to normal holiday rates and demand.

The hotel block is full. Can I still book and get the block rate?

If the block is full and you would like to stay at the hotel, please let us know as soon as possible. We will contact the hotel and they will try to accommodate on a case-by-case basis, with no guarantees.

I booked a single bed but would like to change to a double bed. Is this possible?

We are encouraging people to book their rooms as early as possible, as this is first-come-first-serve. As it gets closer to the wedding weekend, chances are low that this option will be available. Please contact us or the hotel and we will try to accommodate.
