We met on Twitter. Yes, you read that correctly. We're still not sure why or exactly when, but sometime in 2018, we followed each other on Twitter. We didn't interact at all until 2021, when I did some sleuthing and figured out Trevor was single. We interacted a bit about metalcore and veganism, then followed each other on Instagram. I posted a Parkway Drive song on my Instagram story knowing he was a fan and hoping he'd reply. My trap worked and we ended up having a lengthy conversation in the Instagram DMs. I mentioned that I wrote my undergraduate thesis paper on metalcore, and to my surprise, Trevor genuinely wanted to read it. Two weeks later, he got back to me after reading it (twice) and had actual talking points to discuss. Soon after, we exchanged numbers, and somehow agreed to meet a stranger from 7 hours away. Trevor came down to Nashville on March 13, 2021. I came out of the house, said "howdy," and the rest was history.
Trevor visited Nashville again two weeks later because we had connected so well. We officially started dating on April 4, 2021, during the first weekend that I visited Toledo. We were long distance for the first 9 months of our relationship and took turns driving 7 hours (with a time change, too) every other weekend to see each other. Yes, we were insane. I moved to Baltimore in August 2021 to start graduate school at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University. We were still 7 hours away from each other. Baltimore didn't work out (and we were honestly fooling ourselves thinking we could be apart for another 2 years) so I transferred to Bowling Green State University and moved to Toledo in January 2022. BGSU is a much better fit, and we were able to move in together in a house in the Old West End that we love. Everything started falling into place for us.
We got engaged July 26, 2023, in Dewey Beach, Delaware. I was completely stunned and genuinely had no idea it was going to happen. I am not a morning person, but Trevor was able to convince me to wake up at 5:00am to watch the sunrise over the beach. I was taking pictures of the sunrise, remarking on how beautiful it was. Trevor said, "this is the second most beautiful thing I've seen today." While I was taking pictures, Trevor stood behind me and waited for me to hit "post." I heard him say "Paige," which immediately sent off alarm bells because he never calls me by my name unless he's trying to be serious. I turned around, and he was on one knee with the ring. He asked me to marry him and I said "really?" And then obviously gave an emphatic "yes."
Anyone who knows us knows what a wild journey it's been to find each other. But speaking for both of us, I don't think we'd change a thing. We fell hard and fast for each other, because when we met, we just knew. Everything made sense. I had never felt so comfortable and content around anyone before. Trevor made me feel safe and loved in a way I didn't know I needed--and he still does everyday. We are best friends, soulmates, each other's "loml"s. We can't wait to write the rest of this story.
