The closest airport to Albufeira is Faro Airport which is a short connecting flight from major airports (45 minutes from Lisbon Airport). From there we recommend driving or taking an Uber, which is a very common and easy mode of transportation used in Algarve. Alternatively you can fly to Lisbon (and visit the city which we highly recommend!) and then take the Alfa Pendular train to Albufeira - Ferreiras station, which is a short distance to Albufeira Old Town. The train ride will be between 2.5-3 hours. The drive will take around 2 hours and half from Lisbon Airport. Canadian, American, and or European driver's licenses are valid for car rentals in Portugal. You do not need to have an International Driving Licence. Travel to Algarve (Faro/Albufeira)

While we are staying in Albufeira, Algarve is a small region and is very easy to drive across different towns by car or by Uber. Feel free to stay in cities other than Albufeira if you wish. We recommend our younger guests to stay in either the Old Town or the modern part of Albufeira (aka "The Strip"), which is close to the district of Santa Eulália, as these two neighbourhoods are the liveliest and most concentrated with restaurants and bars. There are plenty of family friendly resorts and hotels located just minutes away from these two neighbourhoods. The following are a few hotels we recommend our guests to stay at, but there are plenty of other hotel and Airbnb options for accommodations. 1. There are plenty of things to do in Albufeira suited for different ages and interests. Here are some of the places we enjoyed visiting during our stay: PLACES TO VISIT Old Town Albufeira &amp; Praia dos Pescadores: The Old Town of Albufeira is the most historical part of the town. It's wedged between Fisherman's Beach and the marina, meaning it's very much in the thick of things. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to sit down for a rest and a cold drink. There are also a lot of beautiful viewpoints with beach views from the top of the cliff. The most popular viewpoint is Miradouro do Pau de Bandeira, located on top of the escalators in Barrio do Pescadores, which offers a stunning view of Albufeira's Old Town and its beaches. Praia de Nossa Senhora da Rocha This is another beautiful beach, (aka Beach of Our Lady of the Rock), located near&nbsp;Lagoa and is a 30 minutes drive from Albufeira Old Town. This is an iconic Algarve venue with a striking&nbsp;promontory&nbsp;and a beautiful old chapel&nbsp;on the top. NIGHT LIFE Montechoro Strip or Albufeira Strip: The Montechoro Strip is the liveliest part of Albuferia, which is about 30 minutes walk from the Old Town area, but you can easily Uber around. Aim for Avenida Sa Carneiro, which is the official name of this district. Old Town Albufeira: At night, the streets in the old town come alive and people party till morning. Most bars and clubs are located in Av da Liberdade. Some bar owners may also offer you amazing complimentary shots! If you venture to the side streets, you can discover charming Algarvian bistros and jazz clubs. Quarteria: The district of Quarteria is actually closer to the nearby resort of Vilamoura, but it's a hot spot for partygoers in Albufeira looking for clubs such as Discoteca Lick and BLISS. The city is built along both sides of the river Gilão Tavira and is a bit less crowded than some of the more popular parts of the region. While Albufeira has plenty of restaurants to choose from, we have hand picked a few of our favourite restaurants to dine in as suggestions: Cafe In-certo:This is a bistro with a great selection of wines, coffees, and tapas. Don't forget to try the flamed chorizo! O Catraio:This is a great place to try Portuguese sea food and steak. They may also bring you a complimentary Port wine. We tried Fish Cataplana and Portuguese steak and they were both delicious! Albufeira Gourmet Churrasqueira Take-Away:This is by far our favourite place to eat authentic Portuguese BBQ. There is seating indoor and outdoor. Order their steak or chicken and enjoy! Restaurante Solgamba:They have a great sea food menu here, especially the prawns. Sugar Rabbit Kaffe:This is a cute coffee shop with delicious crepes and brunch menu.
