Travel Around the Island:
Car
Road is the main form of transport in Mallorca. Three motorways connect Palma and the airport with other parts o the island, notably the north. There are many car rental services located at the airport, however, we highly recommend making reservations early as they can be busy in the Summer. Also please note to make a special request for automatic, as manual vehicles are the standard in Mallorca.
Traveling by vehicle is easy around the island, however, parking in Palma can be like any other city-make note of signs and street markings-parking garages are highly recommended.
Taxis
Taxis are a safe and popular way of getting to and from the airport, as well as around Palma. Taxis can be hailed from the street or telephoned, and all use a meter. There are no Ubers on the island, so we have listed the most popular taxis services below:
+34 67684 7777
+34 64411 3551
Buses
Getting around by bus is easy, efficient, and cheap. Buses serve almost all towns and villages, although services are limited in rural areas and on particular days of the week. See www.emtpalma.es for bus routes.
Shuttles
We will be providing shuttle service for the day of the wedding. The venue is located in a remote mountainous area to the north of the island. The roads can be dangerous particularly around tourist season and in the dark. We cannot stress enough to please take the provided shuttle service. We will have a couple of return time options.
Flights
PMI is the only airport in Mallorca that services both major airlines and budget arilines. Apart from the brand new (couldn't tell you how expensive) direct route from NYC, if you are traveling from the US, you should expect 1-2 connections. If you connect in Barcelona, the flight from Barcelona to Mallorca is about 30-40 minutes-but terminals are far-we learned the hard way.
Please plan your travel to take at least a day with hour changes and connections, and you will pass through customs on your first EU stop...so plan enough connection time.
Hotels
We want everyone to choose their own journey on the island, and their own budget. For that reason, we have chosen to not limit anyone to a room block. There are several hotels spread out across the island and several cities to visit. Palma is the city center and where you will find most amenities.
For those who are interested, we have made arrangements with the following hotels in Palma to offer discounted room rates:

Please note-Mallorca, like many other destinations in Spain and across Europe, has introduced tough new restrictions to govern short-term tourist rentals in recent year. The result: you can still find VRBO and Airbnb throughout the island, but they are limited, so if you want to get a rental please do so with enough anticipation.
Health/Safety
No specific vaccinations are required to travel to Mallorca.
Please stay up to date with COVID specific vaccine/health controls for visiting Spain by visiting the following sites:
Mallorca is clean and safe, with well-tended beaches and streets, and low levels of crime, however, it is advisable to be weary of pickpocketers around the beach or tourist attractions. Carrying minimal cash and making use of the countless ATMs is the way to go. Bags and wallets left out at the beach are all easy targets. There are currency exchange locations around the city, however, it is advisable to bring euros and use ATMs to withdraw euros as needed. Please note Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly accepted credit cards-American Express is NOT widely accepted.
Mallorca is on the EURO.
There are no major health concerns other than the strong sun and heat, which make wearing sunscreen advisable. Tap water is potable, although most tourists drink bottled water. EU visitors can receive free emergency medical care with a European Health Insurance Card, but all travelers should have health insurance.
Visas
You may have read in one of our early newsletters about the ETIAS travel authorization. The implementation of this new visa will NOT go into effect until 2025. As of this moment,
North American visitors do not need a visa for stays up to three months within a six month period. You do, however, need to travel with a valid passport and a return ticket.
EU nationals can stay indefinitely while residents of other Schengen countries can enter with just a national ID card.
