Exchanging money: if you’re looking to exchange money, look for a sign that says Kantor (that is a money exchange place). AVOID KANTORS AT THE AIRPORT and old town square – the exchange rate will be much less favorable. Check your exchange rate online before exchanging and try to get as close as possible to that mark. Usually the dollar stands at 3.8 zl. 4 zl is considered high, 3.5 is considered low. You can also usually ask your US bank to order you some Polish currency but make sure you check their exchange rate before doing so - it may be cheaper in Poland!

Tipping is recommended but not mandatory—usual tipping percentage is 10% at dining establishments. Most people do not tip when ordering a drink at the bar. Taxi drivers you can tip a couple of zloty- does not have to be based on your fare (if they help you with luggage etc.).

Sometimes, especially when dining outside, you may encounter panhandlers who leave an item on your table with a note and walk away. That item is not for you to keep- unless you pay for it. Leave it where they left it and they will come back to pick it up.

Souvenir Shopping: don’t be afraid to haggle- especially if buying multiple items at outdoor markets - some outdoor souvenir stands do not take credit card so be mindful to have some cash.

Credit Cards: Make sure to use a card with no foreign transaction fees - you can always call your bank to find out which credit card doesn't have one! Not all places take Amex, so make sure to pack a Visa or Mastercard. Please also keep in mind that unlike the US, servers do not take your card, they bring the CC terminal to your table. Please remember to ask them to add a tip BEFORE they run your card as once the transaction is complete, they cannot add tip afterwards (unlike the US).

You pay for water. Free refills are not a thing! And if you like ice in your drink, you have to ask for it!
