General Information

We are very excited to celebrate with you in Poland and we wanted to give you some travel information to help you sit back and enjoy your flight!

Poland’s airline is LOT Polish Airlines. The following tri-state airports have direct flights to Warsaw:

New York (JFK) – Warsaw (WAW)

Newark (EWR) – Warsaw (WAW)

Make sure to fly into WAW: Warsaw Chopin Airport, NOT WMI: Warsaw Modlin airport!

When you fly into Warsaw, Warsaw Chopin Airport has free wi-fi when you land. Just open your phone and connect!

Buying Your Airfare with Cash

High season for Poland runs between July– September so we recommend booking your flights sooner rather than later! The cost of flights tend to fluctuate so setting a price alert on some websites such as google.com/travel/flights may be helpful- roundtrip flights to Poland range from $700 to $1,300.

If you are planning on flying LOT Polish Airlines, please be aware that this airline usually does not give vegetarian meal options on board. If you’d rather not have to choose between the meat or the meat, call the airline in advance and request a vegetarian meal. There is also a 50% chance LOT Polish Airlines will weigh your carry-on bag at check-in—be cognizant of how much it weighs!

Economy baggage allowance LOT:

-Carry-on luggage: 8kg/17.64lbs

-Checked luggage: 23kg/50.7lbs.

There are plenty of other airlines besides LOT Polish Airlines that fly to Poland: Air France, KLM, Brussels Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, Finnair etc. but they do include layovers. If you want to make it interesting and have some time, look for a layover which gives you several hours between flights (7 hrs minimum) - you could use this opportunity to explore a new city you never thought you’d visit!

Flying with Miles

If you are looking to fly LOT Polish Airlines with miles, LOT Polish Airlines is a member of Star Alliance which includes United-- you can use your United miles to book your flight! Additionally, you can use your American Airlines or Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, Delta) miles to fly into Warsaw with a layover.

Regardless of which miles program you decide to use, if booking with miles, book your flights way in advance -- most airlines limit the number of seats available for purchase with miles, so these seats can sell out fast.

No miles? No fear! Many credit cards, including Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire, Citibank’s American Airlines credit card & Amex Gold or Platinum offer introductory bonus miles when you open a credit card (depending on when you apply, those introductory miles could cover your entire economy roundtrip). Most of these introductory offers require you to spend a certain amount within the first 3/4/5 months of opening such credit card. If you are looking to open up a credit card for this trip, contact us and we can send you a referral!

Getting from the Airport to your Hotel/Airbnb

Uber or Bolt! Ubers and Bolts are much cheaper in Poland than taxis- get the Uber app and/or Bolt app on your phone and use the wi-fi from the airport to order your Uber/Bolt. A lot of the times Bolt will be less expensive. The process ONLY at the airport: enter destination address in either application, confirm your pick up and you will receive a code. When you get into the uber/bolt they will ask you for the pin (they do this so you do not have to wait for a car, just take the next available) Uber/Bolt is also easier to get somewhere when you don't speak Polish. If you plan on taking a regular taxi, I recommend showing your hotel address on your phone to your taxi driver, just in case they don’t speak English. Taxis display their rates on their windows, the average cost is 4 Polish zloty ($1.00 USD) per kilometer. Be aware that some taxis do not take credit card, if you plan on paying with credit card, always ask if they take it before entering the taxi (that way they don’t tell you the CC machine is broken upon completion of your trip).

Most importantly - if you are staying in an Airbnb located in Warsaw’s Old Town Square, be aware that vehicles, including taxis and Ubers, are not allowed within the Old Town Square. Contact your Airbnb host and ask them where you can be dropped off by a taxi or Uber closest to your Airbnb.

If You’re Planning on Traveling to Other Countries

In case you plan on traveling throughout Europe before or after the wedding, plenty of airlines fly into Warsaw from nearby countries: Wizzair, Ryanair and EasyJet (but note these airlines usually have hidden costs such as seat selection, printing your boarding pass at the airport, carry-on luggage and checked luggage fees).

If you are looking to explore Europe and have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us! Some easy trips to tack onto your trip to Poland include London/Paris; Prague/Budapest; Germany/Austria and Turkey/Greece.

Once you’re all set, please stow your laptops, lean back, and enjoy your trip! See you soon!

The Raffles Hotel is for those who want to splurge a little and live in a world of luxury during their stay in Warsaw! Located across from the Presidential Palace and at the start of Warsaw Old Town, the Raffles Hotel exudes elegance and class. Rooms can be pricey but this specific Raffles has probably the cheapest prices out of all the Raffles in the world. We highly recommend grabbing a fine drink and some appetizers at their chic bar or indulging in a cigar in their humidor room!

Airbnb

Many people choose to stay in an Airbnb to get the most authentic Warsaw experience. We've tried many Airbnbs in Warsaw with only positive things to say afterwards. Not only are they full of old world charm but are usually the cheapest option. That being said, just a couple of things to keep in mind if choosing an Airbnb: 1) Many apartments in Poland, especially in Warsaw Old Town, do NOT have air conditioning. As summers in Poland can get very hot, we recommend filtering apartments with air conditioning if that's something you need (trust me you probably will) 2) If you choose an Airbnb in Warsaw Old Town Square, be aware that vehicles of any kind, including taxis and Ubers, are not allowed within the Old Town Square. Contact your Airbnb host and ask them where you can be dropped off by a taxi or Uber closest to your Airbnb 3) Many, if not all, apartments in Warsaw Old Town do not have elevators. Please keep in mind that unlike in the United States, in Poland the ground floor is the "0" floor, not the first floor. So if you choose an apartment on the third floor, you will actually be on the fourth floor and will have to carry your luggage to your apartment so pack lightly!
