Our Brazil Itinerary

A classic yet modern story of romance as the couple met via Tinder and then Instagrams direct messaging. Patrick made the first move digitally, while Murillo set up an impression-making first date in May of 2021: Quartinos restaurant in River North followed by wine, stunning views, and a first kiss on the balcony. The rest was history; they hung out consistently afterwards enjoying their first Chicago summer together: biking, boating and Boystown! Throughout, Murillo was extremely supportive of Patricks student life, hosting for days at a time while Patrick attended his clinical rotation and student job just a few blocks away in downtown. The couple became official that summer before embarking upon what would become a shared hobby of theirs: world travel. They took two international trips that summer and fall: Dominican Republic in September, and then Morocco in October... Throughout their 4.5 years of exploration the couple agreed that one of their favorite places was Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Murillo proposed to Patrick in this city, and it is the city they have chosen to have their wedding ceremony in - the piece of Brazil they want to share with loved ones. Love to you all xoxo

How they met & started

High above Rio de Janeiro, on the summit of Morro Dois Irmãos with its sweeping view of Ipanema, Murillo pulled off a near flawless proposal. He had planned every detail with Patrick’s preferences in mind - his love of hiking, bird's-eye views, and the foreign allure of Rio’s favelas. To bring it all together, Murillo enlisted a local guide who would lead them through the adventure and discreetly help set the stage for THE moment.The journey began at the crack of dawn. They left their hotel in Copacabana and made their way to Vidigal, a favela nestled at the foot of the mountain: Morro Dois Irmãos. From there, motorcycles carried them up winding streets, through the favela, and into the green mountain's base, where the city slowly melted away and the jungle took over (FYI: Murillo laughs when Patrick refers to Brazilian wildnerness as jungle, but keep reading, it's clearly jungle?). Their climb began on a steep, rugged trail - 1.5 miles through jungled terrain, where the air was alive with unique flora, flashes of tropical birds and chatters from wild monkeys (clearly a jungle). Every step brought a new view: glimpses of the coastline, the glimmering ocean, and stretches of jungle and city rolling endlessly belowStep by step, they climbed higher, until the canopy parted and at last, they reached the summit. The seasonal fog drifted away as if on cue, revealing Rio in its entirety - the golden arc of Ipanema beach, the endless Atlantic, Sugarloaf mountain in the distance, and the city spread out like a painting at their feet.Murillo asked Patrick to turn toward the view so he could snap a photo. While Patrick’s back was turned, Murillo dropped to one knee, ring in hand, heart steady (and hands shaking) with anticipation. “Alright,” he called softly, “the picture’s done - you can turn around now.” When Patrick turned, time stopped. With Rio sprawling endlessly at their feet and the sky clear and blue above them, surprise and joy and laughter lit their faces. ✈️ Travel Info: Brazil Visa for U.S. Guests U.S. citizens now need a tourist eVisa to visit Brazil. It’s quick and all online! How to apply: 1) Go to the official Brazil eVisa website (copy paste to your browser) - https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/index.html Have your passport (valid for at least 6 months), a passport-style photo, and a credit or debit card ready. 3) Fill out the short online form, upload your documents, and pay the $80.90 fee. 4) Processing takes about 5–10 business days, and your visa will be emailed to you as a PDF. 5) Print the eVisa (2 copies ideally) and bring them both with your passport when you travel — you’ll need to show it at the airport. Easy as that! 🇧🇷💛

Tips on transportation from airport to hotel, from hotel to wedding venue. We recommend using ride-share apps as the most convenient, comfortable, and safe way to get around Rio—especially if you’re unfamiliar with the city or traveling with luggage. Please download and practice using Uber if this is not a regular practice for you. It works the same in Brazil as it does in the USA

1. Getting from the Airport to Ipanema

Most of you will be arriving at Galeão International Airport (GIG) or Santos Dumont Airport (SDU). From either airport, the easiest way to get to Ipanema is by ride-share. In Rio, the most commonly used ride-share apps are: Uber – widely available and reliable.99 (pronounced "nove nove") – a local app similar to Uber, often a bit cheaper. A ride from GIG Airport to Ipanema typically takes 25 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. From SDU Airport, it’s even shorter—usually around 20 to 30 minutes. As for cost, expect to pay around R$80 to R$130 (which is approximately $15 to $25 USD) from GIG, and around R$40 to R$80 (about $8 to $15 USD) from SDU. Pricing is reasonable compared to US cities.

2. Getting from Ipanema to the Wedding Venue in Santa Teresa

<a href="https://lp.mansaoalvite.com.br/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mansão Alvite</a>, our wedding venue, is located in Santa Teresa, a beautiful hillside neighborhood about 20 to 30 minutes from Ipanema by car. The easiest way to get to the venue is also by ride-share. Just open Uber or 99, type in "<a href="https://lp.mansaoalvite.com.br/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mansão Alvite</a>" (or use the address we’ll provide), and your driver will take you straight there. Expect the ride to cost around R$40 to R$60 (about $8 to $12 USD) one-way. Again, this depends on the time of day and current demand. Santa Teresa has narrow, winding streets, as it was built during the Portuguese colonial era - so there are multiple routes to reach the venue. Pro Tips: Share your ride status with a friend so they can follow your trip. Use the app’s chat or call feature if you need to confirm pickup points. If you speak a little Portuguese, that helps—but most drivers are used to tourists, and many use translation apps if needed.

As guests make their way to the wedding venue, <a href="https://lp.mansaoalvite.com.br/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mansão Alvite</a>, they’ll pass through this hilltop neighborhood, enjoying scenic views of the city, including glimpses of Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Guanabara Bay. Originally developed in the colonial era housing the Portuguese elite, Santa Teresa has become a haven for artists, musicians, and creatives, with colorful street art, cozy cafes, and galleries tucked into its steep, narrow roads. Rides through the neighborhood may be a little curvy and hilly—so expect some twists and turns—but they’re part of the charm. It’s one of Rio’s most beloved and authentic areas, offering a glimpse into the city’s history and artistic soul before arriving at the venue.

My name is Jack and I am Patrick’s younger brother. I’m an engineer and work in IT for a defense company in San Diego, California. Growing up alongside Patrick meant companionship with a lovely gentleman at all stages of my life - I am so lucky to call him my brother! I can’t wait to represent him as his groomsman at his destination wedding.

riginally from the Bay Area, California, I moved to Chicago for school and stayed for 5 years working as a nurse in the Pediatric ICU.

Patrick and I met over zoom during the first quarter of nursing school and became best friends and then roommates! Doing Crossfit, cooking and studying to classical music quickly became a part of our daily routine. Since then we have remained best friends and I have been lucky to have him through some of the best and hardest moments over the past few years. Through Patrick, I was lucky enough to meet Murillo and call him one of my best friends too. I am so honored to be a part of their special day, love you guys! ❤️

Our friendship has been a complete rollercoaster, filled with laughter and madness, but at the end of the day, he’s my advisor and confidant. Why Rio?

Rio holds a special place in our hearts — it is one of our favorite cities, and is the place where we got engaged. When dreaming up our wedding, we wanted it to reflect one of our greatest shared joys: travel. Hosting our celebration in Brazil is also our (gentle) way of encouraging our American loved ones — especially those who might not otherwise visit — to experience the beauty, culture, and warmth of this incredible country. Since Murillo's family is from Brazil, this celebration is also a meaningful way for us to blend our cultures. We truly hope our guests take this as an opportunity to explore not only Rio, but also other parts of Brazil and South America. Come early, stay late, and adventure safely!
