Our Wedding

Our Story is fairly short and sweet - We met at St. Maximus Orthodox Church in the Fall of 2020 and didn't think much of it, as we were both busy with our own lives, families, friends, and spiritual journeys. Fast forward to Fall 2022, after individually discerning and praying for God's will to be done in our lives regarding marriage, God tapped Peter on the shoulder and we started dating not long after Easter. After a whirlwind courtship we got engaged on October 14th! What started out as an acquaintanceship has blossomed into much more than either of us expected and we are so joyful and excited to continue our lives side by side. Thank you all for your love and prayers. We hope to see you at the Wedding!

If you've never attended an Orthodox wedding before, here is some information to help you be prepared. We want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable enough to share in our joy so, if you have any questions that aren't answered in the following list, please reach out to us! &nbsp;It's traditional to stand during Orthodox services; however, there will be limited seating available for those who need it. The marriage ceremony will be just over an hour long, so wear comfy shoes!&nbsp; We took the names of saints at our baptisms and will be using these names throughout the ceremony. Peter will be called Joseph for St. Joseph the Hesychast, and Delsie will be called Michaela for St. Michael the Archangel. Don't worry, you're at the right wedding! Another aspect of our wedding that may be unusual to some of our guests is the style of the church building. The cathedral is covered with icons. We believe that these paintings illustrate the power of God through His saints. You're welcome to join us in venerating them by making the sign of the cross and kissing the icon. Orthodox churches have a dress code which, at its most basic, requires that men and women wear clothing that covers their shoulders and falls below the knees. Women may wear head coverings, and men may not.&nbsp; We'd like to welcome children of all ages to our wedding. We are used to crawlers and criers, and won't be offended if they want to come closer for a better view. Please feel free to move around the room if it's helpful, and if your arms need a break, there will likely be a babushka nearby willing to lend a helping hand. Also, please note that we will have a photographer. While we appreciate your desire to capture the moment, we ask that you please keep your cell phones on silent and in your pockets and purses during the ceremony! Our reception will be held in the parish hall of the Cathedral, just a short walk across the parking lot. While the hall is of modest size, we are honored to invite you to stay for the wedding feast! The meal will be potluck style with the main dish and beverages provided by the happy couple and their families. We humbly ask that if you are a parishioner of St. Maximus or local to the area and in a position to bring a side dish to share, please use the form below to let us know what you plan to bring. We also ask our honored guests to keep in mind that the parish hall is an extension of the Church and that proper respect of the environment and occasion is requested. Guests are also encouraged to bring an instrument to play during the reception!

Childcare is offered for children ages under the age of 8 during the reception, upstairs in the church schoolroom, although children are highly encouraged to stay with their parents and be included in the party. We wouldn't want them to miss the cake cutting!

Overflow parking will be at 4101 Oak Lawn Ave and at Chase Bank. Please make sure you do not block the ATM lane at the Bank.
