1. Stroll around Oia village
The traditional village of Oia (pronounced EE-A) is the most photographed village in Greece and the Greek islands. It is the most famous place in Santorini to gaze at the volcano and the sunset.
Oia is a particularly beautiful spot on the caldera and offers postcard-like scenery. There are lots of beautiful restaurants with breath-taking views as well as small stores, boutiques and markets to find all of your take-home souvenirs!
2. Explore Fira
Fira is the capital of the island and has a lovely buzz / atmosphere to it. Fira is the area in which we will be staying and spending most of our time. There are plenty of places to grab a drink, watch the sunset and sample the local cuisine.
Some of our favourite places to eat / drink are:-
Parea Tavern (reasonably priced traditional greek cuisine)
Aris (Greek and Mediterranean cuisine)
Sunsha Fiesta (Japanese, great for sunset, live music and party vibes ($$$))
PK Bar (for cocktails and sunset)
3. Hike from Fira to Oia
One of the most spectacular island hiking routes in Greece is the path that connects Fira to Oia. The Oia hike goes through half of the volcanic caldera.
Even for inexperienced hikers, this 3-4 hour course should totally make it to your bucket list! It is considered a relatively easy hiking path, with breathtaking views at every point of the route. It is recommended to start at dawn or before dusk in order to avoid the burning midday sun.
4. Visit the small harbor of Ammoudi
Right underneath the hill from the famous Oia village, there is a tiny fishing harbour called Ammoudi. Although tiny, it remains quaint, hosting taverns where you can savour delicious fresh fish and seafood.
There is no beach at Ammoudi Bay but some people swim in the area. Ammoudi Bay is also considered a beautiful and peaceful sunset spot.
5. Visit the Three Bells Church in Fira
Named after its distinctive bell tower, the church Three Bells of Fira is a Catholic church which dates back to the 18th century.
The church is considered one of the prettiest blue-domed churches in Santorini. It is one of the most visited sights in the area and its location on the caldera offers breath-taking views of the Aegean Sea and volcano.
6. Go Wine-Tasting at Santo Wines
Santo Wines is located directly opposite our wedding venue Santorini Gem. You can taste a variety of local wines in a well-decorated outdoor space while enjoying lounge or live music. This spot gives you a dreamy view of the breath-taking Caldera volcano, and the Aegean Sea. You should consider visiting in the evening for sunset!
7. Visit Akrotiri Lighthouse
Located on the southwestern tip of the island, the Akrotiri Lighthouse is one of the most beautiful sites in Santorini. Santorini is mainly famous for its spectacular sunsets and the colours that are reflected in the small white houses built on the Caldera cliffs. The Lighthouse of Akrotiri is another prominent location where you can admire the captivating sunsets!
