Where to eat (or drink)

Driekant BroodCafe - a great place to grab breakfast (or lunch) near the train station and city centre of Zutphen.

Van Rossum’s Koffie - while less of a cafe and more of a coffee shop/bakery, this is a great place for a coffee and pastry.

De Revolutie - tapas restaurant that is popular in the city with the food inspired by Latin America.

BioToko – Biologisch-Indonesisch Restaurant - Indonesian food is very popular in the country.

Cafe Camelot - a nice and cozy pub in the center of town. They are known for their variety of beers with a minimum of 85 available. They also have lunch/dinner.


Winebar Nic& Ik - a great wine bar with lunch and dinner options.

Grand Café Pierrot - A great option for an authentic Dutch lunch/dinner/drinks. Recommend ordering some bitterballen.

Things to See and Do

Quick History: Zutphen is one of the oldest cities in the country, with home to almost 400 national monuments and over 500 local monuments. The city was a part of the Hanseatic League, an influential medieval trading alliance that existed from the 13th to the 17th century. It was a federation of merchant guilds and market towns that controlled trade along the Baltic and North Sea coasts. Zutphen was an important center for the trade of textiles. The city still has a well-preserved medieval center, with many buildings that date back to the Hanseatic period.

The Librije - the chain library is located in the Walburgiskerk (church) in Zutphen. It is one of the oldest public libraries in the world. The library in Zutphen is one of only 3 remaining chained libraries, along with the Malatesta Novello library in Cesena, Italy and one in the cathedral in Hereford, UK. You also have the chance to climb the tower to discover the scenery, church and ring the church bells. This library is one of 5 from the Middle Ages still standing and in use in Europe. Note that it is a chain library due to the books in chains. It requires a ticket to visit and climb the tower.

Explore Zutphen by Canoe - at Kanoverhuur Zutphen, you can rent canoes to follow the small river the Berkel. The river starts in Germany and ends in Zutphen.

Canal Tour of Zutphen - If you don't want to canoe, there are also canal tours of Zutphen, which typically last 60-75 minutes.

Markets - Zutphen has local markets on Thursday and Saturdays from 8AM - 1PM in the center city.

Shopping - the Beukerstraat is one of the most popular streets for shopping in the city. There are bigger names as well as small boutiques and concept stores. The side streets also have some cute stores to visit as well.

Proeflokaal A. van Wees - the tasting room for the van Wees distillery, it is a great spot to experience jenever (gin) and traditional Dutch cuisine.


Pickled Herring - a popular food to try while in the country that is tied to the country's merchant background and their naval empire in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Things to See and Do

9 Straatjes - one of Amsterdam's most photogenic neighborhoods, it is known for its boutiques and specialty stores as well as foodie hotspots, fascinating monuments and canal house museums.

Canal Cruise - take a canal cruise to experience the city on the water.

Rijksmuseum - a great collection of art showcasing Dutch history, including Vermeer and Rembrandt. It is the most popular museum in Amsterdam.


Anne Frank House - if you plan to go, you will need to ensure that you book tickets well in advance.

Van Gogh Museum - a museum primarily dedicated to Van Gogh as well as some pieces from artists that he drew inspiration from.
