Explore Northern Arizona

Grand Canyon National Park

The South Rim is only a short (hour and a half) drive from Flagstaff. While Rachel enjoys a great Rim to Rim adventure, this takes 24 hours. For a short hike, go to Grand View. Bring plenty of water! It is possible that access into the canyon is restricted if it is a particularly hot, summer day. South Rim is a more populated area, but is still worth the trip. Get there early to avoid the crowds and the heat. The North Rim is approximately four hours from Flagstaff, but is over 1,000 feet higher and less crowded.

Sedona

Go on a vortex hike, take a Pink Jeep tour, or balance your chakras among the famous Red Rocks.

These hikes are some favorites of the happy couple:

Shorter hikes: Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, Devil's Bridge, Coffee Pot, Sugar Loaf, Brin's Mesa, Soldier's Pass (where you can see the famous Sinkhole and the Seven Sacred Pools), Little Horse, Doe Mountain, Fay Canyon, Broken Arrow, and Courthouse Butte.

Long day hikes: West Fork Trail, Bear Mountain, Huckaby Trail, and Robber's Roost.

These are some places to eat after your tour or hike:

Casual (and kid friendly): 89 Agave has great margs and salsa. Pisa Lisa is a fun pizza joint.

Upscale: Mariposa and Cucina Rustica

Antelope Canyon

Take a two hour drive north of Flagstaff to take some very fancy photos in these incredible slot canyons. If you want to check out these famous slot canyons, you NEED to book an hour long tour with a certified Navajo tour guide, and pick either the Upper or Lower Canyon. Upper is going to be busier, therefore, more expensive. Upper Canyon is what made Antelope Canyon famous because this section supposedly has the best photography spots. Rachel (not a professional photographer) thinks each section looks the same, so recommends just going to the Lower Canyon and saving LOTS of money. She recommends https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60834-d2402955-Reviews-Ken_s_Tours_Lower_Antelope_Canyon-Page_Arizona.html for a basic hour long tour. Both Upper and Lower Canyon offer special photography trips with more time and smaller groups. Book the tour in advance! Do not forget to budget an extra half an hour to visit Horseshoe Bend, and bring cash as you will have to pay for parking.

Roger's Lake

Go check out Gold Digger Trail! This is the first hike Sam and Rachel did together, and the same spot he popped the question! This hike is located in Flagstaff and only takes a few hours.

Lowell Observatory

Located on Mars Hill in Flagstaff, you can visit the place where Pluto was discovered!

Arizona Snowbowl

Enjoy a nice ski lift ride to the top of the San Francisco Peaks. There are plenty of fun hikes to do all over the mountain. This place is where Rachel loves to snowboard every winter too.

Wupatki and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monuments

The Wupatki National Monument is a short drive from Flagstaff and is rich in Native American ruins. Take a short drive to Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument once you are done exploring the ruins. These national monuments can be visited in a few hours. Rachel recommends going in the morning to avoid the heat, then grabbing lunch back in town.

End of the World

Take an hour long off-roading trip to visit this beautiful overlook of Sedona. This is a great picnic spot, and a great place to watch the sunset.
