John had just closed on his house the week before, when he invited his new roommate, Mark, to go to a Leon Bridges concert at Red Rocks. GA seats were all taken, so the pair found a couple empty seats in the VIP section. Shortly thereafter, some blonde LA girl and a Cali bro (Josh Morrison) asked if the seats next to them were empty. After sitting down next to John, she says, "Hi, I'm Rachel, and this is my friend Josh." John, knowing what that means, engaged in conversation.

Although John and Rachel chatted for a few minutes, conversation died down until Amanda came over. John knowing there was no way this girl was also from California, asked where she came in from. Turns out, Amanda and John graduated from Baylor together. Maybe this Rachel girl wasn't a weird concert girl after all. After discussing their activities in college, Rachel and John discovered they both spent time in China. John, thinking he was unequivocally smooth, tried speaking Chinese to Rachel. After discovering she was fully fluent, he tried to put his foot in his mouth. Instead of letting him off the hook, she followed up by saying, "Don't worry, I'll dumb it down for you." Which she then followed up with another Chinese comment John did not understand.

Two days later while Rachel and her friends were still visiting Denver, Rachel invited John to hang out with their group. John responded that he was "too busy cleaning his kitchen." Ironically, he's now going to renovate his whole house for Rachel.
