While there is no specific dress code for the ceremony given that there is a religious portion of the event we would suggest dressing modestly. You are welcome to bring a shawl for the religious portion and this can be removed for the rest of the ceremony. You are welcome to wear traditional Indian clothing such as lehengas, saris, and suits but it is also perfectly acceptable to wear Western clothing. It is also important to note that the religious ceremony usually takes place with everyone seated on the ground so it is best to wear something you will be comfortable in!
Can I wear white?
Yes you can wear white! In fact, any colour is fine for an Indian wedding! Unlike most western weddings the Bride typically wears red on the wedding day
Do I have to remove my shoes for the day ceremony?
Yes!
No shoes are worn in the area where the religious ceremony will be held. There will be carpeting and a walkway to indicate where your shoes should be removed.
Of course once you leave the religious area you will be able to wear your shoes around the rest of the venue and for the tea and luncheon.
Do I have to cover my head for the day ceremony?
Yes!
You must cover your head during the religious ceremony. It’s a sign of respect in a holy place. You don’t have to hide all of your hair - feel free to show it! Just cover the top of your head. Both men and women (and kids) can wear bandanas (which will be provided) or scarfs to do this.
You will be able to remove the head covering once you leave the religious area.
