Fav hikes:

1). Flat Top- about 3 hours roundtrip

Moderate hike- last part is a little steep but overall not too hard

It gives you the whole view of the city

2). Coastal Trail- start at Westchester and walk to downtown for lunch (about 2 hours roundtrip with a stop for lunch) easy and flat along the coast.

3) Rabbit creek, Relatively flat too but long. takes you to a beautiful lake in the mountains in Southside anchorage

Things to do in Girdwood

Nordic Spa at Alyeska

Alyeska: You can take the tram up and down if you want a scenic views and there is a restaurant and bar called Seven Glaciers

1). Girdwood- Winners Circle

Fun hike right behind Alyeska - about 2 hours round trip depending how far you go- overall pretty easy hike :-)

2). For the more adventurers

You can hike to the top of Alyeska- enjoy a beer at the top and take the tram down for a fee (think its 20 bucks) It use to be free for hikers but I heard they changed it


3) Challenging but looks pretty fun: Take a tram up, hike up and do some skybridges for some incredible views: www.alyeskaresort.com/veilbreaker

Check out the Eagle river nature reserve very common bear sighting

Eklutna Lake and Tailraces - beautiful hiking

Byron glacier- easy flat hike to the glacier

Portage hike- ditto

Hatcher's pass- beautiful hiking

Whittier- great fishing and a unique town almost entirely in a single building

Extended Stay? Here is what we recommend

Take the train to Talketna or Seward

Homer- take a ferry to to Seldovia for the day

Homer- great fishing- usually need to book early

Take a plane to a nearby glacier or a seaplane to a glacial lake

Port of Valdez-Cool fishing town in prince william sound. Paddle or boat around some glaciers and likely whale sightings

McCarthy- Wrangle Mountain town, more remote and gravel roads towards the end. Ice wall and valley glacier, bear sightings, beautiful hiking.

Kenai Peninsula- Hope- cute town with frequent live music. Seward- great fishing and hiking. Cooper landing- Fishing town and great brewery. Then head to Homer.

Denali national park- if you are going there may as well take the ring road to fairbanks and check out Chena Hot Springs.
