Our Wedding

It was the summer of 2021, and Emily arrived at the Augustine Institute for the second day of her summer internship to find a handsome young man installing a cubicle wall at her desk. This handyman was Robert, an Augustine Institute graduate student from Texas. They discovered they had both spent time at the University of Dallas, Emily as a student and Robert as a seminarian for the Diocese of Dallas. They had overlapped for one semester there in the Fall of 2018 but didn’t meet until this serendipitous encounter. From that time on, Robert and Emily crossed paths several times at the occasional Denver Catholic young adult social event, the most notable of these being an Easter Vigil Afterparty at Holy Name, where Robert teased Emily for showing up to his parish’s party after attending a different Easter Vigil Mass.&nbsp; Fast forward to the summer of 2024: Emily received a last-minute invitation from a friend to come to a party that night at Robert’s house. Robert did not plan on attending this party at his own home but decided to make a brief appearance. Instead of dancing in the backyard, he opted to hold his friends’ baby, Felicity, on the patio.&nbsp; Anyone who knows Emily knows she can’t help holding a cute baby, so she approached Felicity (and Robert, too, to be fair) to say hello to her 6-month-old friend. Robert remembers Emily taking a fussy Felicity from his arms while thinking, “Hm…she’d make a great mom someday!” The two spent the next few hours talking on the back patio, with sleeping Felicity in Emily’s arms, and after Felicity left, they talked some more.&nbsp; At the end of the night, Emily walked back to her car as she thought, “Oh my gosh…I spent the whole night talking to that guy...I think I like him!” Meanwhile, Robert was met by his roommates eagerly awaiting him inside the house, saying, “Dude! Did you get her number?!” He had not, so Robert spent the next two and a half weeks in an unsuccessful attempt to track down Emily to ask her on a date. He finally resorted to getting her number from his roommate and calling her on a Sunday afternoon. Happily surprised to receive this phone call, Emily agreed to go on a date with Robert…as soon as they possibly could. A few days later, they went for a sunset hike followed by ice cream, quickly realizing how easy it was to spend all their time with one another.&nbsp; Robert and Emily spent the next several months growing in friendship and falling in love, talking for hours on end, nerding out about theology, spending time with one another’s friends and families, road-tripping through Texas, planning a move to St. Louis for Emily’s job at the Augustine Institute, and even becoming godparents to Robert’s nephew together.&nbsp; On a Tuesday evening in March, Robert and Emily got engaged at the spot they went on their first date, and they ended the night celebrating with their friends (and Felicity) on the patio where it began the summer before. They are grateful to God's providence for bringing them together in this way, the continuous prayers and support of their family and friends, and lastly, the Augustine Institute for giving them not only some Master’s degrees and jobs but also their vocation.&nbsp;

The closest airports to Fredericksburg are the San Antonio airport (about a 1-hour drive) and the Austin airport (1.5-hour drive). We recommend renting a car if you plan on flying, as there aren't many rideshare options to, from, and within Fredericksburg.
