Steve and Robin both enjoy history and have a wry sense of humor. When they found the Gaston Historical Jail, they couldn't resist - it fit the bill on so many levels.
Built as the Gaston County Jail in 1848 and now a designated historic landmark, the Historic Dallas Jail is a tangible representation of early American incarceration practices and judicial systems. Its Greek Revival design also makes it a unique existing example of architecture popular at the time.
Through it's long life, it has been many things. Since 1911, the building has been used as apartments, The Old Dallas Jail Restaurant, a Peddlers Steak House, a Tack and Feed store, and most recently a Bar. For the last 36 years 'The Old Dallas Jail' remained empty.
Now, after years long restoration, the Historic Jail has a new purpose. The venue features two ballrooms adorned with stunning chandeliers, antique fireplaces, exposed brick walls, and Victorian details that add character and sophistication to any occasion. Join us for a walk through history as we walk towards our future.
