We met through a mutual friend. At a gas station Kristofer worked at. We became fast friends seeing each other at friend gatherings and float trips. We stayed friends for a few years. One year, when we had both become recently single, we started leaning on each other for support. We got to the point where we were hanging out every day. We soon found ourselves moving in together.
On our first date, we went star gazing and watched our first moon rise ever together. Though we did not speak on it right away, this was the night we both knew we wanted to be with each other. We had many great dates, from going to the aquarium to beautiful hiking trips.
All I wanted for my 38th birthday was to pick a place off our adventure list and go! Kristofer took it upon himself to plan an amazing day of hiking through beautiful Elephant Rock and then going for a fun swim at Johnsons Shut In. Little did I know, but Kris had a plan to propose on this beautiful day. First stop was Elephant Rock. Kris was super nervous but just started to tell me his feelings for me when I started wailing in pain! I dropped quickly to my knees and pulled up my pant leg to reveal a small hole where I had just been stung by a red wasp! Kris sat with me until the pain subsided. It still hurt a bit throughout the day, but we were able to have an amazing day.
Needless to say, me being stung made it hard for Kris to work up the nerve to attempt to continue the proposal. We finished the day and had a lovely trip to return home. Before going home, we stopped at his brother's house, and by this time, it was around 11pm and very dark outside. As we got out of the car, Kris told me he had one more surprise for me and dropped to one knee. He was so nervous he quickly told me his feelings for me and held up a box with a ring in it, which I couldn't see in the dark, and then quickly stood up. I smiled and just said yes with a giggle. I was overjoyed!
It may seem not the most glamorous or organized proposal to some, but I wouldn't have it any other way! It went just how it was supposed to go. And it gave us a great story!
It fit us so well. How much we love each other that we still get nervous from time to time. How things go awry in the most comical ways. And how things never go just perfect for us or just how we plan them, but has the best way of working out and us being better for it. We are so perfectly imperfect and beautifully flawed and loving every inch and minute of it!
