A white truck and trailer pulled off Arco Corporate Drive to park in front of Qualcomm, a business in North Raleigh. Rossie hopped out of the driver's seat, pulled out coolers and set up tables. It was another day of work at LoMo Market, a farmer's market-on-wheels.
"Have you ever been on our market before?" she asked a blonde, smiling man. "No, I haven't," he said. "Great, my co-worker will show you around," she said. Rebuffed, the smiling man shrugged and followed Rossie's co-worker aboard the trailer-grocery-store.
Every Tuesday over the next few months, the smiling man (Dave) became a regular at LoMo, buying excellent locals meats, cheeses and homemade jams. Rossie approved of his taste and enjoyed chatting with him. One day, Ruby, one of Dave's co-workers , was talking to Rossie as Dave walked across the parking lot towards them.
"Oh there's Dave," said Rossie. "He's a nice guy."
"Yup," said Ruby. "AND he likes good beer. AND he's single."
And that was enough for Rossie. Good beer AND into local food? She also discovered he lived with his sister Caitlin. Rossie lived with her brother Timothy at the time, and recognized Dave as a family-oriented kindred spirit.
The next week Dave said: "You know, I always get to tell you how I'm doing but I never get to hear how you're doing. And you're always so busy. Can we hang out sometime when you aren't working?"
Rossie smiled and gave him her number. He left, but neglected to grab his water bottle. So ten minutes later, he returned right as Rossie said to her co-worker: "I think I just got asked out." Unfortunately, Dave witnessed the excited shrieks of the co-worker.
Their first date was a swim in the Durham Quarry , followed by burgers and beers at Dain's on Ninth Street (also excellent choices for things to do in Durham).
A year and a half later, Dave asked Rossie to marry him at the Pump Station on the Eno River. Rossie, caught off guard, tried to run. But decided to say yes. Ever since, she's thanked God for the gift of his friendship, good humor, loyalty and love.
They've been engaged since December 2015, getting to know each other and having adventures. In that time, Dave cheered Rossie through graduate school and Rossie lured Dave to Durham from Cary. Dave showed Rossie that Florida is an excellent state, and Rossie introduced Dave to the wild crazy world of the Izlar family. They are all so glad he wasn't scared away.
Good job getting to the bottom of this story. We are delighted about the future together and glad you'll be sending us off on this journey...and hopefully be with us on the way!
