Brian and Ruby both worked out at the same time every morning at UChicago's gym. They had gym crushes on each other for months, but were too focused on their workouts and scared to approach each other.
Finally, in July 2018, Ruby downloaded Bumble for one (1) day and matched almost immediately with Brian. They went on a date and became official a month later.
Brian and Ruby dated for two years in Chicago, living just a 10 minute walk away from each other. They met each other's families in 2019, and have spent family holidays together ever since.
During their time together in Chicago, Brian completed his Masters in Sports Administration and received two promotions at work. Ruby finished her Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and was accepted into NYU medical school. Finding it impractical [almost impossible] to turn down free tuition, they agreed to do long-distance, and Ruby accepted the offer to attend NYU.
Brian & Ruby quarantined together during the early COVID pandemic until November when she moved to medical school in-person. They trained for, and later ran, a half-marathon together, worked out and danced often in Brian’s apartment.
Brian and Ruby have now been making long distance between Chicago and NYC work for 3.5 years. They have virtual date nights, and see each other for activity-filled weekends or trips every 1-2 months.
On a Labor Day weekend visit to Chicago, Brian tricked Ruby into thinking they were attending a cocktail hour for his job. Brian instead proposed privately at the Logan Center for the Arts, a place where Ruby has performed several times, located on UChicago's campus where they met. She was very happy with her custom ruby ring.
On March 15th, Ruby found out she matched neurology residency at Cornell's hospital located on the Upper East Side of New York City. Once he knew she would be staying in NYC for 4 more years, Brian started looking for jobs in the City.
On July 24th, a month after Ruby started residency, Brian moved to NYC. He accepted a job at NYU to manage facilities and operations for eight dormitories.
Brian & Ruby have been settling into their couple life in NYC, joined by their amazing local friends!
