To travel to Mexico from the United States, US citizens need a valid passport, a completed immigration form, and an entry permit if they are staying longer than the border area.

Passport

A valid passport book or card is required to enter Mexico.

The passport must be valid for the entire length of the trip.

Each stamp requires a blank passport page.

Entry permit

A tourist visa is only required if the visit is longer than 180 days.

Other requirements

Mexican immigration officers may request additional documents at the port of entry.

Drivers need a state-issued driver's license, proof of vehicle registration, and proper insurance for driving in Mexico.
