Buzzfeeds checklist for the perfect partner!&nbsp; - Come from a similar culture!&nbsp;- Have the same religion!- Live in the same country!- Live in the same continent! #Love-finds-a-way On July 20 2024, Salma &amp; Shaun were introduced to each other through a mutual friend while she was living in Dubai and he was living in Scotland, on what would become the primary communications portal for their relationship: Google Meets.&nbsp; Typically used for businesses to plan world domination, Salma &amp; Shaun instead relied on Google Meets to get to know each other and see into each other's lives. Over months and countless hours of conversations, Salma &amp; Shaun developed a love that was beautiful and unique, with one major twist which was that they had never met each other in person.&nbsp; All that changed on December 27th 2024, when Salma &amp; Shaun met in Cairo, Egypt with a group of friends from across the world for a 11 day Egypt trip across 5 destinations.&nbsp; On Day 5 of the trip, Salma was just about able to look Shaun in the eye, and on Day 9, with their feet in the Red Sea, Salma &amp; Shaun became official; and so began the next chapter, which saw them get engaged in March '25, and now they are so excited to share their wedding day with you all in May 2026!!

If you're not Egyptian: Please arrive by 5:00 PM sharp... we know you're actually going to show up on time.If you're Egyptian: You know the drill. We’re saying 4:00 PM to be safe, but fashionably late is practically tradition. Expect the buffet to open during the party and the dancing won't stop!

Travel Advice

We recommend flying into Cairo International Airport (CAI). Alternatively, you could fly into Giza Sphinx International Airport (SPX), though this requires a longer commute. For guests planning to visit the Red Sea resorts, Hurghada Airport is the closest option for El Gouna, while Sharm El Sheikh Airport serves those heading to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, or Neweiba. Tip: Ask us about transportation options from and to those airports for a smoother experience Non-Egyptians require a Visa, please check the section below for guidance. On the flight you will be provided with a paper slip to fill out for entering Egypt. This is not your visa, it is an airline information slip for your arrival as a non-Egyptian and will be taken by the Egyptian passport control. Once through passport control, you will collect your checked luggage as normal and move to the exit, where your luggage will be scanned one final time. As you queue, you may be asked where you are going or arriving from, and offered to move up the queue. This is a tip scam and you will be asked for money if you move up. Stay in the queue and do not tip anyone within the airport.&nbsp;

Visa Advice

Please note if you are not an Egyptian National, you will require a visa to enter the country, which will be checked on arrival. Using the link below, check the requirements for your country's passport and apply for your visa online through the Egyptian E-Visa Portal. You will only be able to apply within 90 days of the date you plan to arrive. www.visa2egypt.gov.eg You will normally receive the visa within 5 working days based on Shaun's experience as a UK national. Check for accuracy before you submit - Shaun accidentally left out his middle names from his passport and was rejected, but re-submitted and was successful. Hotel Recommendations

The Bridal Party &amp; Family are planning to stay at JW Marriot in Cairo. We will link options for accommodation below which are all approximately 15 miles from the wedding venue. Those hotels also have restaurants, bars and pools to chill at if you want, so bring a swimsuit. For parties travelling together, we should advise that you stay in the same hotel as you would require transport (Ubers) to move between hotels, New Cairo is less walkable than Europe. We will support with transport options from the Airport to Hotels and for travelling to and from the wedding venue. Getting to your Accomodation

There are different ways to get to your accommodation from the airport, but we recommend arranging a booking ahead of time with a specific company -&nbsp;Please get in touch with us directly for assistance in booking transport! TIP: Avoid taking one of the taxis that will be parked in front of the airport.&nbsp;

Currency, Paying & Tipping

Local CurrencyThe local currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). As most things are card, you could get by with a small amount of EGP for tipping etc. This can be bought before you travel. Paying99% of payments can be made by card - we recommends using Monzo or a similar card type that doesn't charge for foreign transactions. TippingTipping is a part of Egyptian culture, and for this its normal to use local currency in cash.

Mobile Data & E-Sims

Anyone travelling will need to use an E-Sim option to ensure they have mobile data while visiting Egypt. You could always stick to Wi-Fi in hotels but while out and about you will want data to be able to whatsapp and book taxi's. If you need advice on E-sims please contact Shaun for some tips!

WHAT TO WEAR IN EGYPT

When you're out and about in Cairo, especially in more traditional or crowded areas, we recommend dressing modestly, particularly for women. It’s best to avoid shorts and revealing outfits while walking around the streets, just to stay comfortable and respectful of the local culture. That said, in all of the destinations listed in our Egypt Destinations section, you can wear beachwear, summer clothes, and whatever you feel good in. These areas are much more relaxed and tourist-friendly. Pack your swimsuit! With Egypt’s warm weather, there's a good chance you'll be swimming at some point, most places, most of the year. (Especially if you're planning on visiting another beach destination) As for the wedding, wear whatever makes you feel amazing! The above advice is mostly for sightseeing and wandering through city streets.

Places to Visit and See

Egypt and Cairo have many incredible things to do or see. If you want recommendations for some places to visit, we will list some below and we will keep adding more as we get closer to the date! The Pyramids of GizaThe Pyramids are amazing to explore, but here are some important tips to make sure your visit goes smoothly:- Buy tickets only from the official ticket office at the entrance. There are many scammers outside—don’t fall for it!- If you want a tour guide, we can help arrange a trusted, licensed guide who speaks English and knows the site well.- If you want to enter one of the pyramids, tickets are bought at the same office you purchase the entrance ticket from.- Be cautious about camel or horse rides. These can be fun, but often “dealers” outside the site sometimes overcharge. If you really want to ride, make sure you have an Egyptian friend or guide with you who speaks Arabic and can negotiate on your behalf.- Wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, and carry water there’s lots to see, and it can get very hot!- Try to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the midday heat.- If you fancy a meal by the pyramids, our favourite restaurant there is called <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/rGXvvm3TBkxWX2rw5" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Khufu's</a> Restaurant, you need to book in advance. Check their instagram page for more details. The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)Location: Located near the Giza Pyramids, just a short drive away. It’s brand new, modern, and holds one of the world’s largest collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun.Why visit? It provides incredible context to the Pyramids, showing artifacts, statues, and mummies that bring the history to life.Opening Hours:Typically open Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PMClosed on Fridays and Saturdays (but always good to check ahead as hours can vary)Tickets: Buy from the official ticket office at the museum or online via the official website to avoid scams. Khan el Khalili Market<a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qi4139XVjroofMtL8" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Location</a>It's one of Cairo’s most famous markets, a vibrant, chaotic, and colorful bazaar full of spices, souvenirs, jewelry, traditional crafts, and more. Here are some tips to make your visit smooth:Bargain with a smile — haggling is expected and part of the fun, but always do it kindly and with good humour. (Recommended to have someone who speaks Arabic with you, but most shops speak English as they are used to having foreigners visit)Watch your belongings, like any busy market, pickpockets can be around.Don’t be afraid to say no. Vendors can be persistent. A polite “la, shukran” (no, thank you) goes a long way.Bring cash. Small bills are especially helpful.Avoid going too late in the evening. Alcohol

Local beer and wine: You can get as many as you want from Drinkies shop. You can check the closest branch to you based on where you are staying. Branded spirits: You are allowed to bring up to two bottles when you are coming from abroad from Duty Free. There is also the option of getting from dealers in Egypt but it will be more expensive and more of a hassle.

Things To Do

El Gouna

A chic, modern resort town on the Red Sea known for its crystal-clear waters, lagoons, and vibrant marina. It boasts some of the nicest bars and restaurants in the area, with nightlife that varies depending on the day. It is perfect for those who want to unwind after a day of exploring. It is highly recommended to take a one day boat trip to nearby islands, offering beautiful beaches and excellent snorkeling spots for an unforgettable day out on the water. You will find great hotels in El Gouna. However, most people book apartments or villas through Airbnb or Booking specially for bigger groups (you will also find ones with pools). Make sure the accomodation is NOT in Hurghada if you are planning to spend your days in El Gouna. Transportation in Gouna is in TukTuks that you will find in different locations there. You will need cash in Egyptian currency to pay them. FYI - The picture above is Shaun in the water, if you want to experience this kind of relaxation in El Gouna, you need to book a boat trip. There is also the option to go on a diving boat trip arranged by a company (You'll probably have other people with you on the boat) Closest airport: Hurghada airport

Sharm El-Sheikh

A world-famous Red Sea resort offering stunning coral reefs &amp; fantastic diving spots. May is ideal for enjoying the beaches before the summer heat kicks in full force. Sharm El Sheikh is relatively close to both Dahab and Neweiba, making it easy to visit these nearby destinations if you want to explore more of the Sinai coast. Accommodation options: There are great hotels there, contact us for the recommended options. Sharm El Sheikh airport available for this destination

Dahab

Laid-back and authentic, Dahab is popular among travelers seeking a relaxed, bohemian vibe. Known for its friendly community, and creative energy, it’s the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. Great for diving, windsurfing, and exploring nearby desert landscapes like the Blue Hole and Mount Sinai. Dahab is relatively close to Sharm El Sheikh and Neweiba, so it’s easy to hop between these spots. If you're into hiking and want to visit Mount Sinai, we have a good guide we can recommend. Reach out and we'll help you arrange it! If you are planning on traveling to another nearby destination, some accommodations offer transportation. Nuweibaa

A quieter, less touristy coastal town on the Sinai Peninsula with beautiful sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. It’s perfect for relaxing and soaking up the chill vibe. Guests can also visit Castle Zaman, a unique desert retreat nearby. While there isn’t much nightlife or bustling activities, it’s a great spot for peaceful days and scenic hikes. Neweiba is relatively close to Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab, making it easy to explore the area. Contact us for trusted hiking tour guides.
