Camp Caroline has always been a big part of both our lives. Before we even knew each other, our families were connected there—Kaytee’s grandparents worked at the camp, Sam’s parents were on the board, and we both grew up going to family camp and grade camp. It’s wild to think about how many times we crossed paths without realizing it! We’ve even seen old camp videos where we were at the same camps without knowing it.

Over the years, our families would spend Christmases at Camp Caroline, and Sam and his dad would sometimes watch football with Kaytee’s Opa. But somehow, we never really met.

Fast forward to summer 2023: we both came back to camp as counselors. We didn’t hit it off instantly, but we became friends pretty quickly. Of course, camp rumors started flying (because, you know, camp), but we were focused on building a good friendship. By the end of the summer, we both started to think there might be something more.

Then we found out we were both going to Briercrest College in Saskatchewan that fall. We arrived still “just friends,” but there was a quiet sense that maybe God had something bigger planned.

As we spent more time together, we felt like we should wait a semester before starting anything serious. It wasn’t easy, but it turned out to be a really sweet time of building a strong foundation for what we knew would be something long-term.

On the last day of our first semester, we officially started dating. And from then on, we both knew we were in it for the long haul. Eleven months later, Sam proposed to Kaytee at the prayer tower at Camp Caroline, a place that’s been so meaningful to us both.

Our story is a testament to God’s perfect timing and a reminder that His plans are always greater than we can imagine. We’re so excited to continue this journey together and can’t wait to celebrate with you on our big day!
