“I don’t want to meet a guy from a dating app” was Sam’s dating mentality for most of 2019, and it was not working out well for her. After too many bad first dates, in September she finally decided to download the Hinge dating app to help widen her net of prospects.

After some aggressive swiping on the app, she was getting exhausted of answering “hey how was your day?” messages over and over with no dates to show for it.

Luke was a single guy in Southie, enjoying his nights at the local bars, staying busy with work, friends, and Boston sports teams. He had been a pro at the apps for a while, but was ready to meet someone he really clicked with.

Atlast, the algorithm matched Luke’s profile with Sam’s. He complimented her smile and was quick to ask her out for a drink, which she loved.

They met up at Shore Leave, a tiki themed cocktail bar in a South End basement. Sam knew Luke had serious potential when he was willing to split a novelty tequila-based cocktail that came in a giant volcano.

They sat at the bar and quickly bonded over the new Post Malone album that had recently come out. By the end of the night, they were already making plans to see him in concert together in a few weeks. (Little did they know that would become the first of many concert nights together!) As they said goodbye at the end of the night, they both knew that it was no ordinary first date. 🤍
