Mendocino is a remote part of the California Coast located along Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Highway). Unfortunately, there is no easy access to this area of the California coastline (such as an airport or rail system) and travelers must arrive by car. If you have the extra time and don't mind a longer drive, the most idyllic way to access the area is through San Francisco, heading North along Hwy 1. The shortest and most convienant route is to travel to Ukiah then onto Willits where you will join up with Hwy 20. This will take you through a winding redwood forest to Hwy 1.
How Do I Get To The Venue?
Unfortunately, our venue does not have great service, or service at all (lookin' at you Verizon...) So please take a look at this map. Its a "straight" shot up Little Lake Rd from Mendocino for 4.4 miles. Heartwood will be on the Left and have signs directing you. Good Luck!
Can I Bring My Beloved Furry Friend?
Want to come celebrate with us but hate to leave your pets behind? Then Mendocino is the place for you! We have a plethora of dog friendly beaches, accommodations, restaurants, and activities (check out our things to do and stay page). We love your furry friends as much as we love all of you and would love to help you find a way to bring them along. Unfortunately, we are not allowed dogs at the venue (apart from our wedding party pups) but we are happy to help find pup sitters for you, should you need them.
What's the Weather Like in August?
To be completely honest, your guess is as good as ours. The weather here is notoriously unpredictable. However, based on our experience, the end of August and start of September, is the best time of year to visit. We typically start the day with a bit of fog that burns off around 10 or 11 am. Sunny or partly sunny conditions typically carry to sunset. Highs in the 60s are typical. We highly recommend wearing comfortable layers throughout the day.
What to Pack?
Mendocino is an artistic, laid-back, and outdoorsy community of people. We highly recommend bringing lots of comfortable walking shoes, hiking boots, bathing suits for the beach, and lots of warm layers (it gets cold at night). Pro tip: to look like a local, always dress like you are camping .
What's the General Vibe for this Weekend/Wedding?
We are both so incredibly excited to get to spend this momentous day with all of you. We are hoping that this weekend can be an extremely fun and relaxing get-away for all those who attend. We are so excited to show off this wonderful place that we have fallen so deeply in love with. Our goal is to make the welcome party (Friday) and actual wedding day (Saturday), a fun, easy-going, and laid-back experience for everyone. There will be plenty of food, lawn games, fire pits, and an open bar to hopefully ensure that everyone has a great time.
What's the Dress Code for the Wedding?
Since the wedding will be held outdoors we are recommending that everyone dress as comfortably as possible and bring a warm coat. Come as you are, as fancy or as trashy as you please. Just make sure you are comfortable.
Transportation to and From the Wedding
Since we have such a limited number of parking spots at the venue, we will be providing a van to take people to and from designated sites around the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. There will also be a few car services for hire available at the time of the event.
What Should I See While I'm Here?
There is so much to do along the Mendocino Coastline. Check out our things to do tab for recommendations from our wedding party. From kayaking, to wine tasting, to foodie stops and nightlife, there is something for everyone.
Are My Kids Allowed at the Wedding?
Although we love your children, we regretfully cannot accommodate them at the venue due to limited seating. If you bring your kids along for the weekend we would be happy to assist in arranging for childcare, should you need it.
Will I have a Good Time?
There is a lot that this trip can do for you: help you unwind, celebrate your loved ones, see some different looking squirrels...but it cannot fix different issues, like how you behave in group settings or your general baseline mood. That's a job for incremental lifestyle changes, sustained over time. We want to be VERY clear about what this trip can do for you. We can recommend a beautiful hike through the redwoods. We CANNOT make you someone who enjoys hiking. We can take you to the beach but we CANNOT make you feel comfortable in a bathing suit. We can throw an awesome wedding; we CANNOT make you throw your hands in the air and "wave them like you just don't care" and mean it. If you are sad where you are, you will be the same SAD YOU on vacation. Does that make sense?
Any Other Questions/Comments/Concerns?
If you have any additional questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to either Rob (559)269-3006 or Sam (661)487-6607. We know it is a lot to ask to have you all travel out here and we would love to help make your trip as seamless as possible.
