Connor and Sam met on a dating app during the height of the pandemic in November of 2020. They realized they lived in the same apartment complex, but Connor lived in a different building than Sam did. For their first date, Connor and Sam went out to see the windmills and they got Taco Bell afterwards. Sam had never seen a windmill up close, and she thought it was the coolest experience. Connor and Sam were inseparable from the beginning, and they spent the majority of their time together from then on.

All of that time together paid off when Connor proposed on October 26, 2023 at Kent's Cucurbits. Connor reached out to Sam's best friend, Caitlin Dunn, the day before to ask her to ask Sam to get pumpkins for a pumpkin carving party Caitlin was hosting on Saturday. Caitlin and her husband, Jesse, drove Sam to Kent's because Connor was meeting them there after he got off work. Connor did not tell anyone else that he was planning to propose except Caitlin. Sam's dad knew Connor was going to propose the week before Halloween, but he did not know any specifics. Sam was completely clueless to Connor's plan because Connor had told Sam he wasn't planning to propose until December. Sam almost found the ring in Connor's sock drawer when she was putting away his clothes, but luckily she did not find it. It was raining just before Connor and Sam went to take pictures with Caitlin and Jesse, but it stopped raining fortunately. A very nervous Connor got down on one knee, and he barely got out "Will you marry me?" Sam said yes, but neither Sam or Connor knew which hand the ring went one. Luckily Caitlin was there to tell them it went on Sam's left hand. Connor put the ring on Sam's finger and Sam cried.
