John and Samantha first met in the fall of 2016 in a civil engineering course at Santa Clara University. John was a sophomore and excited to be taking one of the first technical classes for his major! Samantha was a junior and was not too excited to be in a class she just needed to take to graduate.

After the first day of class, John took an interest in Samantha, and by the second week, he had managed to find a seat in class right next to her! To strike up a conversation, John started by saying, "Have we met before? You look so familiar!" To which Samantha replied, "No, I don't think so." To keep the conversation going, John asked if Samantha was from Colorado. Things only got more awkward when Samantha replied that she was in fact from Colorado, and it turned out they actually went to high school 10 minutes away from each other!

It took two months of slow work on John's behalf before these two ever hung out outside of class. In their first "not-a-date", Samantha took John on some errands. Not too long later, Samantha accidentally met John's entire family while decorating Christmas cookies at his house.

Despite some awkward encounters, these two quickly found out they had a lot in common from food allergies to growing up in Colorado. By February 2017, these two were going strong and the rest... well it not nearly as funny!
