Brewery with a great patio, local beer, good food, and right on Bozeman Beach pond.
Great beer and pizza right on MSU campus.
Located downtown- good beer, good food, and beer/cider slushies!
A favorite of ours! Fun atmosphere, little bit of everything food-wise, a ton of beer choices.
A Schmidt favorite. Great place if you want to eat some local bison burger or steak.
A local old time favorite! A historical saloon with good food and great people.
Beautiful reservoir tucked in the mountains! Short drive from town. Plenty of trailheads to explore, a few with waterfalls! Palisade Falls is a very accessible, paved path to a waterfall. Swimming, paddle-boarding, and fishing allowed on the reservoir (be sure to get a fishing license first).
High alpine lake hike
Short hike and close to town. Great view of Gallatin Valley and Bozeman.
Hike close to town. Longer than the "M" hike. Gives a great overview of Bozeman.
Explore the resort town, hike some of the surrounding trails, go on a horseback ride, go white-water rafting on the Gallatin river.
Get out on the river and try fly fishing! Hiring a guide for the day will greatly increase your chances of catching trout and they do all the hard work for you. Great way to spend a day in the sun.
Grab some tubes, tie them all together, and float a few mile stretch of the lower Madison River! Fairly shallow river and makes a relaxing and fun summer activity.
-You will need to purchase a $10 Conservation License from Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks
-Put in: BLM Warm Springs Boat Launch
-Takeout: Beartrap Canyon North Camprground or Black's Ford Fishing Access Site
You will need two cars, one to drop off at the Takeout location, and then one to drive to the Put in site.
-You can also use Madison River Tubing for a shuttle and tube rentals
The massive 2.2 million acre national park is a 1.5 hour drive from Bozeman. You can see the major attractions in one full day, but we do recommend at least two days if you can make it work. Sam was a tour guide in the park and has some major attractions to see:
- You can enter in through the North entrance: Gardiner or the North-West entrance: West Yellowstone. They are the same distance drive from Bozeman.
-The park is divided in to two loops- the North loop and the South loop. The North loop is considered the more scenic and wildlife rich path. The South Loop will contain more geothermal features like geysers and hot springs. All areas in the park are beautiful and have the chance for wildlife viewing. June is a great time to go, as the animals are more active than they would be later in the summer.
North Loop:
-Lamar Valley is a must for wildlife viewing! It's a Schmidt family favorite. Can find bison, pronghorn, bears, and wolves if extra lucky
-Slough Creek is a beautiful spot and a great hike
-Mammoth Hot Springs usually has a great concentration of elk. Also cool travertine terraces
South Loop:
-Canyon!! Favorite scenic view. Take the south rim drive to Artist Point and Brink of the Upper Falls.
-Mud Volcano- very cool and stinky (sulfur) mud pots
-Hayden Valley. Usually high concentrations of bison
-Old Faithful geyser and geyser basin. Take the time to watch Old Faithful, but don't miss out on the boardwalks behind the Old Faithful Inn. It's my favorite geyser basin to walk around.
-Grand Prismatic Overlook hike
-Firehole Canyon Drive
