Samantha and Daniel went to the same school district, however they did not officially meet until Sam's sophomore year and Dan's senior year, June of 2014. Sam informed her friend who was also Dan's friend that she was interested in getting to know Dan. Their first date was a day of kayaking which ended with Sam falling into the muddy river bank. Shortly after, Sam dumped her blizzard in Dan's "Grand Priece of Shit" Grand Prix. For whatever reason, Sam's clumsiness won Dan over and they became adventure buddies.

During their college years, Dan transferred out to ESF in Syracuse for his Junior year while Sam started her freshmen at NU. Every night, they talked over the phone or sat in silence on FaceTime while doing their homework. Every weekend, Dan would either return home to Buffalo (sometimes carpooling with MOH Nicole), Sam would drive to Syracuse, or they would meet in the middle and spend a long day exploring Rochester. One of their favorite places to spend time was at Mendon Ponds in Henrietta.

After getting through the "long" distance relationship, Dan and Sam decided to put their relationship to the test, and went on a three week road trip across the country. When they returned, they bought a house, got a boat, have seen over fifty percent of the country together, and have spent countless hours backpacking, camping, skiing, cycling, running, and overall enjoying life together.

In February 2024, Sam and Dan returned to Mendon Ponds for the first time since college. Dan got down on one knee, asked "the" question, finally, and Sam said yes. He then took his fiancee to a member exclusive club for a $1.99 slice of pizza to celebrate. After their Costco trip, they actually celebrated at the beloved Genesee Brew House.
