In April of 2023, the couple and their dear friends Christian and Jeff went on vacation together to Vermont; a beloved vacation destination. The main to-do items were exploring the trails of the green mountain state, however, mud season was in full swing in April; many trails were closed. That did not stop the troupe from taking any opportunity to search for trails that remained open.

On one of their trail searches, Sami discovered Little River State Park, just on the outskirts of the Waterbury Dam in Waterbury, VT. Although the initial trail they found was suddenly closed due to ground conditions, the troupe explored the dam and braced against the sudden weather changes; the weather cycled through rain, hail, cloudy, and sunny in just an hour.

Undeterred by the weather, they happened upon the Dalley Loop trail that was still open and found themselves leaving the neatly carved paths to adventure deeper into the backside of the mountain. After crossing many rivers and streams, they happened upon a waterfall just in time for the sun to come out from behind the clouds.

Unknown to Sami, Mitch enlisted the help of Christian and Jeff to help him propose during their vacation. The only problem? The trail Mitch originally planned to propose on was closed for mud season; so now the trio were waiting for the perfect moment for Mitch to pop the question.

As the sun came from behind the clouds at the waterfall, Christian and Jeff distracted Sami as Mitch prepared for his proposal. They decided to take a picture of the happy couple at the base of the waterfall, and when Sami turned around to pose for the photo, she found Mitch on one knee to ask the most important question of their lives.
