It's the summer of 2018.

Sara, 26, had recently come back to Malmö after finishing an internship in Nicaragua.

Evan, 24, had been living in Malmö since leaving the U.S. in late 2016.

Sara and Evan meet at a kräftskiva – a traditional Swedish crawfish party – in the backyard of a mutual friend.

They talk about Harry Potter and, when the party moves to a club, Sara tries to teach Evan to dance salsa. She's not successful.

Sara brings Evan to her family’s cabin in Djupvik, outside of Motala.

They take the rowboat out on the lake, hunt for yellowfoot mushrooms with Sara’s family, and spend quality time with Cariño the golden retriever.

Sara and Evan make their first trip outside of Scandinavia to visit Berlin.

Shortly after, they both have to leave Sweden: Sara to write her MA thesis in Buenos Aires, and Evan because his Swedish visa has expired.

The two aren’t sure when – or even if – they’ll see each other again…

Sara and Evan are reunited!

Sara returns from Buenos Aires and meets Evan – who has been traveling across Europe by train – in Palma de Mallorca.

They spend a fantastic couple of days exploring the island, meeting Sara’s extended family, and eating tapas.

This time in Palma leads to a turning point in the relationship. It becomes clear that, despite the challenges posed by visa issues and wanderlust, these two really have something special.

After Palma, Sara returns to Sweden. Evan, who still hasn't been granted a new Swedish visa, isn't able to follow and instead returns to his Euro-trip. But it's clear that they will find a way to see each other again.

Evan's new Swedish visa is granted. He comes back to Sweden in August 2019 – and has been there since!

After going to the wedding of Mimmi and Rosanna (who are both bridesmaids at S & E's wedding), Sara and Evan return to the Djupvik cabin.

There, they exchange “I love you’s” for the first time on August 18th – exactly one year after the day they met.

Evan and his family – Joel, Kathryn, and Pace – celebrate a Swedish Christmas with Sara and her family.

Sara and Evan move in together in the early days of the pandemic.

Sara spends the social distancing era running and doing apartment renovation work.

Evan, meanwhile, builds an apparatus to sprout dozens of avocado pits simultaneously.

For the first time, Evan joins Sara’s family on their annual summer trip to the far north of Sweden.

Sara paints the barn and cuts the grass while Evan reads and hangs out with Cariño.

Sara joins Evan in California for the first time and is introduced to the wonders of Mexican food, Nor Cal breweries, and redwood trees.

Sara and Evan buy an apartment together! What says “love” more than co-signing a mortgage…?

Sara paints the walls, adds wood paneling, and builds bookshelves.

Evan tries to keep the houseplants alive but with little success.

Sara and Evan spend a week walking the Camino trail in northern Spain.

Six years to the day after they first met, and five years after they first said they loved each other, Evan proposes to Sara in Bilbao. She says yes!

Mats and Maria, Sara’s parents, visit California for the first time.

They meet some of the Kathryn's side of the family and are also introduced to the wonders of Mexican food, Nor Cal breweries, and redwood trees.

Sara and Evan spend three months in Barcelona eating tapas, drinking cañas, and embracing a slower and sunnier lifestyle.
