Old Wide Awake Plantation
Old Wide Awake is a circa 1800 plantation home filled to the brim with southern charm. 200 years ago, the home was located a few hundred yards from where it sits now. The original home site was inside what is now “Wide Awake Park.”
Perched high on her bluff overlooking the Stono River, this home is known for its iconic wrap around porch and picturesque tree-lined avenue.
Fun Fact: At the start of the 1800s she served as a 24-hour general store for the Stono Ferry that docked on her property. The 24-hour ferry carried people from the mainland over to what is now Johns Island.
A Little about Charleston
The city of Charleston was established in the year 1670, making it the oldest town in South Carolina. Its name was chosen by the original settlers after King Charles II. It is well known for being an epicenter of trading and religious tolerance thus coining its nickname “The Holy City”.
Why We Love Charleston
Kailey
Charleston and Kailey go way back. She grew up going to soccer tournaments at Patriots Point with her mom and close friend Morgan. They would all stay at her Grandfathers timeshare on Edisto island.
Kailey also loves Charleston for its rich history and resilient spirit. For almost 400 years, the city has been ravished by wars, fires, and seasonal hurricanes. Despite this fact, Charleston remains vibrant and alive.
The shopping scene is another one of the many things Kailey loves. Whether it’s taking a stroll through the downtown markets or a trip down King Street, there’s just a charm about Charleston that she hopes you’ll feel and appreciate as much as she does.
Nick
Nick on the other hand, doesn’t have such deep roots planted in Charleston. Albeit he has visited several times since he and Kailey started dating.
Nick enjoys the walks around The Battery and the scenic boat ride out to Fort Sumter. Although, his favorite part of the city would have to be the food.
A few of Nick’s favorite places to eat are just a stones throw away from the downtown markets. These include the shrimp & grits at Anson’s Restaurant or the hardy breakfast at Toast! All Day.
