If you are flying into San Francisco and have time to explore, there are lots of unique spots. You can explore Golden Gate Park, which is giant and stretches all the way to the beach. Walk along the Embarcadero and make a stop at the Ferry Building for oysters at Hog Island Oyster company. Walk or bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. Visit the Painted Ladies. Walk through the Castro for a gay old time. Take a trolley car through the city centre. Visit Ocean Beach and its great restaurant, the Cliff House. Take a hike in Lands End for beautiful ocean and sunset views. Visit Chinatown or Japantown. See sea lions at Fisherman's wharf. If you have more time, you can visit Alcatraz Island via boat. Just outside of the city, you can visit Muir Woods (tickets may be required) and see centuries old giant Redwoods.
