One of the most sought-after views in the blue ridge mountains is found here at McAfee knob. It offers a 270-degree panoramic view of Roanoke Valley. All trails rate this hike as moderately difficult. The trail is 7.8 miles out and back and typically takes just over four hours to complete.

This is Sara and Jess's favorite hike (so far) in the area. Located approximately 35 minutes away is Bottom Creek Gorge Preserve. This hike has many layers to it each one you will fall more in love with as you progress. If you love epic views and hikes that involve close-ups with a river then this is for you. All trails rate this hike as moderate. Depending on the path chosen it may be between 4.4-4.7 miles long or shorter.
The Mill Mountain Star is a beloved hallmark of Roanoke. It is the second-largest manmade star in the United States. It sits just behind a lookout that oversees the city of Roanoke. We recommend going around sunset or in the evening to see all of the lights! To get to the top you may either hike the trail available or simply drive to the top and park in the lot.
