Q + A

Do we need a passport to travel to the USVI?

While you don't need a passport to travel here. You will need one for our wedding day! Our wedding day will take place in the BVI and it will be REQUIRED to attend. This will also help expedite your airport experience when you leave island.

What's reef safe sunscreen?

Certain sunscreen ingredients are actually illegal in the USVI. We are trying to do our part to protect our reefs by using only mineral based sunscreens. If you can help us by making sure any you bring with you are free of oxybenzone, octinoxate and octocrylene. Avobenzone is also another frowned upon ingredient even though it's technically not illegal here. Under active ingredients if it only says Zinc Oxide you know you have a good one! Don't trust all the labels that say reef safe, make sure to also check the ingredients on the back. Some of our favorite brands are Salt & Stone, Sun Bum MINERAL and Bare Republic.

When should I book?

ASAP! You can never book too early. While airfare is only available 1 year in advance, you can book your accommodations and car rentals as early as you'd like. You won't find a lot of price variation waiting to book as our rates here are pre set depending on the time of the year it is. We purposely picked a date that falls when most places consider it "off-season" so the rates should be slightly cheaper than during our peak season so make sure you are looking at the correct rates when looking up different costs.

Do I need cash?

YES! While credit cards are widely accepted here (MC and Visa are accepted everywhere while Amex is accepted only a handful of locations) there are times that cash is needed: Most merchants do charge a 3-4% credit card fee (just a heads up) so if you would like to avoid that fee, cash is king! If you are not planning to rent a car, all the taxis on island are cash only so you will need cash to get around. Our power grid is very unreliable and will randomly go out. Some restaurants and stores during those times will become cash only during these outages. It's just a good rule of thumb to always have a little cash on you. There are plenty of ATM's on island as well if you don't like traveling with cash or you run out.

What's the weather like in late July?

You can expect it to be sunny and warm! The days will likely be in the high 80's and nights in the low 80's to high 70's. It is technically hurricane season this time of the year so while we hope there are no storms during our special time we will keep our eyes on anything that might be coming off of Africa. Sometimes a small wave could bring a rainy day but those are rare.

Do I need fancy clothing?

A nice short sleeve shirt and shorts for the guys and sundress for the girls is about as fancy as you might need. Even the fine dining restaurants are pretty casual. As long as you're not wearing a swimsuit walking into a restaurant you'll fit right in no matter your attire. Also ladies, don't bother with heels. Nice sandals will do. Our roads (and sidewalks where the exist) are full of holes and gravel, etc. You'll thank us later for not worrying about packing the heels.
