Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site is a state-owned property located north of Sedalia, Missouri, preserving the 31-room, 12,000-square-foot lodge built atop two natural caves constructed by Sedalia attorney, John Bothwell. The site offers tours and trails for hiking and mountain biking, and most of the furnishings are original.
The Katy Trail is a path built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy), and it spans 240 miles long between Clinton and Machens. It features beautiful, scenic areas of the state with the majority of the trail closely following the Missouri River. Our favorite location to walk on the trail begins at Clover Dell Park at 5257 W 32nd St. in Sedalia, MO.
The historic district of downtown Sedalia is full of old brick buildings housing modern shops, restaurants, and galleries. Dozens of the buildings are registered with the National Register of Historic Places.
The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art opened in 2002 and is located on the State Fair Community College campus in Sedalia. The museums permanent collection includes more than 1,500 artworks by some of the most highly regarded artists of the past 50 years.
The Missouri State Fairgrounds are known for hosting the Missouri State Fair, but the site hosts many events year-round. There is a Golden Circle Horse Show from September 27-28, 2024.
Union Station is located across the street from Crown Center shopping and entertainment district and less than five minutes from the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial. Admission is free, but there is a charge for some attractions and events.

At 75-acres, Jacob L. Loose Park is one of Kansas City’s most popular, beautiful, and historical sites. The park is well-known locally as being a major site for the Battle of Westport where Confederate forces were routed by Union forces in the area in which the park is now located. It also features a municipal rose garden, and it is Ian and Sarah’s favorite place to walk and picnic!
