Anu and Sarah met in the lab. Anu in the middle of his MD/PhD training, and Sarah completing her MPH. What began as shared academic space with Anu helping Sarah with medical school applications and Sarah deeply involved in community work, slowly turned into spending time together as friends, longer conversations, and eventually a shared life.

Anu was captivated by Sarah’s unique blend of compassion and courage. Her deep kindness and emotional intelligence shine through in everything she does, paired with a boldness that empowers her to stand firmly for what she believes in. Sarah communicates with clarity and honesty, showing immense depth and logic, balanced by warmth and humor. Her organized, structured, and observant nature reflects her attentive spirit. Guided by a strong commitment to service and community, Sarah embodies justice, authenticity, and emotional strength. She’s also really funny. She is steady, honest, tender, and strong in a way that makes me feel both challenged and completely at home.

Sarah was drawn to Anu’s intentionality, consistency, and depth. He thinks deeply about the world and about the people he loves, never failing to show up for them. He is ambitious and driven, but also playful, silly, and warm. He brings structure and steadiness to uncertain moments. He values growth, builds with purpose, and loves wholeheartedly. He’s also a phenomenal cook and will absolutely make sure I am never hungry. He is intentional, consistent, compassionate, and a great cat dad.

Our days are filled with the companionship of our kitties, Amélie and Ember, better known by their affectionate aliases, Brebby and Baby Emby. Sarah gently cradles Brebby while studying. Meanwhile, Anu trains Baby Emby to leap to catch her favorite toy or the kitties engage in legendary battles against their formidable foe, the "Demon String of the 4 Elements”, wielded by Anu. Victories are celebrated with great pomp, usually involving treats. Speaking of treats, when we get off from work every day, Anu loves making snacks for Sarah that we eat together. The snacks usually come from our weekly hunt for Costco sales, during which, Sarah has to hold Anu back from buying chocolate tuxedo cake every time. Anu tries to justify it by highlighting all the working out we do together, like with yoga and strength training, but we save cake for times with friends. We thrive in the warmth of our community, cherishing game nights immersed in our favorite TTRPG, Draw Steel, or hosting gatherings where our unofficial house rule is simple: no one leaves hungry. Seriously, just TRY leaving without being fed, we dare you.
