Sarah and Hunter aren’t exactly sure when they first met. Serendipity was kind enough to put them both on the third floor of Anderson Hall at American University during their freshman year. Hunter remembers being smitten anytime they would hang out in the common rooms. Sarah remembers thinking Hunter talked too much and wished he’d stop trying to impress her walking around shirtless through the halls.

One night in October 2017, a mutual friend invited them to a Baltimore Ravens game. On the way home, while it seemed like Sarah was asleep in the back seat, Hunter admitted to her friend that he had a huge crush on Sarah. Sarah, who definitely was not asleep, kept that information in mind....

Later that winter, Hunter invited Sarah to a party. He seemed so proud of having a +1 that she didnt have the heart to tell him she was already invited. Sarah left the party early to take care of a friend who’d had more fun than he could handle. Hunter, having had more fun than he could handle himself, finally gathered the courage to tell her how he felt. He knocked on her door and told her he didn’t want to ruin the friendship they had, but he was crazy about her, couldn’t stop thinking about her, and thought they should be together. It was way over the top and way too dramatic, but somehow, it worked.

They talked all through winter break and couldn’t stop laughing (one conversation went on well past midnight, where they tried to end every sentence in a preposition. Why? They don’t know). When he picked her up at the DC airport, Hunter brought white lilies and asked if maybe they should officially be boyfriend and girlfriend. Sarah said “I thought we were already,” and Hunter said “oops.”

They spent the next year and a half at school falling for each other. They talked about what they loved, what scared them, what they wanted from life, the places they wanted to see, the places they’d already seen and wanted to share with each other. Most importantly, they talked about the people that had meant so much to them growing up - they called them each other’s “story book characters.”

Junior year of college, they decided to move into an apartment together across from The National Cathedral (seen pictured in the "Photos" tab above). It was pretty small, but it got REALLY small when COVID shut campus down, moved classes online, and kept them in lockdown together for over a year. People told them if they could survive that, they could survive a lifetime together.

They graduated in 2021, moved into a bigger place, then back into a smaller place, and spent two years saving for a trip to Italy. Hunter did everything in his power to keep the ring a secret (which contributed to the ring size being wayyyyy wrong). Their first night in Rome, Hunter got down on one knee and said a series of run-on sentences that resembled a proposal. In truth, they both knew from the moment they met that they’d spend the rest of their lives together.
