The wedding cookie table is a beloved tradition in Northern Ohio that became prevalent from a combination of the high influx of immigrants that came to the area in the early Twentieth century, their baking traditions, the expense of an elaborate wedding cake, and the hardship caused by the Great Depression. The expense of a wedding cake was offset when baking the wedding cookies was shared amongst the family and therefore became a labor of love.
