Q + A

Where is the Wedding?

The wedding and all planned events will be at the same venue -- Mahekal Beach Resort, an all inclusive venue with three pools, several restaurants and bars, a spa, etc. We have already personally vetted the food and drinks, and we genuinely think they will impress the snootiest of the snoots. https://www.mahekalbeachresort.com

Thursday & Saturday - What's Up?

We expect people will arrive at various times on Thursday (or earlier), so we will have casual drinks at Las Olas (onsite) at 5pm. At 7pm we will have dinner at Fuego Restaurante (on site). Please let Steven or Sarah know if you plan on joining dinner. Saturday is informal and open-ended. The resort is fairly small, and you are bound to run into people you know where ever you are. Plan an excursion (check out 'Things to Do' tab), schedule an appointment at the spa, read a book by the beach. The day is yours (but we obviously hope to see you!)...

What should I bring?

Bring yourselves, bathing suits, a solid attitude and if you choose, something spiffy to wear to the wedding. The entire weekend is designed to be easy-going and fun. Bring whatever you would bring to a beach vacation for comfort and relaxation.

What's the weather usually like at Playa del Carmen in November?

Typically in the low 80s. It cools off at night, so bring something to wrap up in for evenings.

Booking Travel Plans

Check out the 'Book Your Spot!' tab. The wedding is on Friday, and the resort requires a minimum three-day stay. So we are recommending Thursday (November 6) arrival and Sunday departure (November 9). However, obviously feel free to come early and stay later - the bride and groom will be there and would love to share a drink, laugh or even a tear with you. You will save wrinkles and grey hair for those working behind the scenes if you book through the link provided on the tab.

Other Transportation

All transportation can be provided for you, if you follow the rules. If you book flights and rooms through the website (link provided in the 'Book Your Spot!' tab), you will get all the airline deals you would get through whatever your go-to booking site would give you, but then our Travel Planner will be able to arrange transportation from the (Cancun) airport to the resort. If you are stubborn, and wish to do things on your own, please communicate with Steven and Sarah what your plans are. Warning about rental cars: they are super cheap, but arrange for rental insurance through your current insurer. We did not, and we had to pay an additional $400+ for 5 days. If you do not get a rental car, the resort can arrange for transportation for you as needed, for excursions, etc. There is no NEED to leave the resort during your stay though, there is plenty to do there.

Are Children Allowed?

Yes, but this entire experience has been planned with a party-like atmosphere. We leave that decision up to you.

Where is the Registry?

Your presence is more than we could ask for. We can only accept a drink at the bar and high-fives.

Pesos or Dollars?

Locals can smell a tourist before they get off the plane, and will use various inflated conversion rates for cash purchases. We found it best to use a credit card for most purchases, and pesos when cash made more sense.
