John and Selena started at Resilience on the same day - August 2nd, 2021 - where they both worked in manufacturing. Because they started together, they were partnered up on everything from buying steel-toed shoes to making medicine together. (Photo taken on their 3 year anniversary at the company)

John and Selena went on a trip to St Lucia in April 2024. There are many fun facts to know about this trip:
- Selena genuinely didn’t think she was getting proposed to on this trip.
- For months prior to the trip, John was in contact with a native photographer (named Hans) to plan where the proposal would happen. Hans played a huge role in this amazing proposal.
- Selena took Sariah and Arunmani to help her pick vacation outfits and both were adamant she wear something white.
- Selena forgot her curling iron on this trip. John secretly texted Selena’s mom Theresa and from 1000 miles away, Theresa arranged for a hotel worker to buy a curling iron and put it in Selena’s room. Not knowing her mom went through all the trouble, Selena didn’t even end up using the curling iron but kept it for the sweet memory of her mom doing absolutely anything for her.
- John knew Selena would cry during the proposal and bought makeup (with Theresa’s help) for her to use before taking their engagement pictures. John knew he couldn’t hide the makeup in his pocket on the way to the beach, so he called Hans that morning. Hans drove to the hotel to pick it up and had it ready for Selena after the proposal.
- John knew Selena would notice the ring box in his shorts pocket so he stuck the box in his underwear (under his balls) and did his best to walk without her noticing (she had no clue).
- When the couple arrived to the beach, they walked out to a dock to watch the sunset. Hans was sitting on the dock “taking pictures of fish”. Selena asked Hans to take a picture of her and John with her phone. Hans played along and asked if he could pose them for a few pictures. He asked Selena to turn toward to mountain, and that was John’s cue to get down on a knee. John whipped the ring box out of his underwear so fast Hans didn’t even have time to get a picture of him with his hand down his shorts.
- After the sweetest proposal of all time, the couple had dinner at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the island. Selena could not believe all of the thought and surprises that went into the proposal. She cried tears of pure love the entire dinner and John had to tell her to calm down so people didn’t think there was something wrong LOL.
- After it was all said and done, Selena told John he was so calm and cool that she genuinely didn’t think he was proposing. Meanwhile John was internally juggling 100 things to make sure the day was perfect - talk about a total stud.
- On their way to the airport at the end of the trip, the Uber driver was giving the couple a history lesson of the island. He told them that St Lucia’s Independence Day is February 22nd which is John and Selena’s dating anniversary. That last fact was the cherry on top of the most beautiful trip ever and St Lucia will always be John and Selena’s special place.
